I like this shot as well.
Hope you don't mind, I adjusted the curves a little to get the darks, darker.

Not sure why, but that updated version looks a lot worse than the original did. How could you NOT like the 24-105???? :P

I actually really like my 24-105...but compared to my primes it's my least favorite lens. :D Monitors play a big part in this photo...on my laptop I don't like the colors at all. On my iOS devices and iMac at home the colors are good.

Not sure why people feel the urge to edit each other's photos in this subforum (which I think is more about sharing than it is about asking for critique/suggestions), especially if it was not asked for.

Anyway... why don't you like the 24-105?

For a zoom I actually like the 24-105...I'd prefer to use primes though. I don't like Reef's edit at all and prefer the original.

Looking at the full size version on flickr I can see why you you like this shot but aren't happy with the lens. Is it possible that the focus is off just a bit? The foreground grass seems slightly sharper than the subject.

The 24-105 is a good quality lens, but at f4, I consider it a slow lens. Zooming in at 105mm and at f4, it does create decent bokeh, but I still prefer my primes with f1.4. 24-105 is my go-to lens for indoor studio shots when I'm shooting at closed apertures as it still creates sharp images. The IS is also a big plus over the primes. :D

So what focal length was this shot at? At 105, you could get some decent bokeh.
