I was sitting by the river at low tide, and this bunch of crows landed on a gravel bank. They started turning the stones over, looking for bugs, with considerable success. I've seen Ruddy Turnstones before, but not Black Turnstones!

Maybe those crows will evolve into a new species in another few eons, Ian.

The crows are so amusing to watch, Al. Earlier in the spring, they were watching eagles swooping down and catching fish (fairly big fish) and not long after, I saw the crows swooping down just like the eagles, but trying to grab smaller fish. They were unsuccessful, but I'm convinced they are learning their behaviour from watching other birds, and were quite persistent trying to grab little fish with their feet.

Crows are very intelligent creatures, they adapt to their environment quicker than most.

I have heard that Ravens and Crows are very creative thinkers. How neat to watch them in action! Great shot of the Kestrel...not on a wire!

Black Turnstones.....hehe Ian, that's a good one! :)
They are fascinating to watch as they noodle things out and quite often very successfully. Speaking of successful, you certain had success with their blacks and browns on sometimes mixed backgrounds. Nice collection of captures from what I'd assume was a pretty good distance. Well done!
What to say about the Kestrel other than it's a beauty. Nice to catch one every so often "off the wire". Impressive little raptors.

Yeah, the background is our red Nova Scotia mud/gravel. I was a fair distance away with the 500 and 2x. And FINALLY, a Kestrel not on a wire! Thanks as always Steve.

Groan on the pun but wow on the images, Ian. And yes, I did notice the Kestrel sans wire. That could be a wall-hanger!

Thank you, Rog. Not quite on the wall hanger, I'd like a bit better angle yet.

Nice, love kestrels on natural perches(or anything not on a wire). Love the crow shots too, but there's just something about those little kestrels-they'll always be a favorite of mine.
