Not necessarily. Canon upped the max ISO for the T4i from the T3i (6,400 to 12,800) with the same sensor...and no noticeable improvement.

Yes, but all they did was unlock another stage of chip amplification. With the ISO being 16k, it looks as if a different base ISO was the starting point.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Agreed, but if that's the case... it sounds like a big "desperation" move, for bragging-rights.. with 16,000 likely being garbage. Who quotes Max ISO's in 1/3-stops? ;)

It might be that ISO 100 is not a native ISO, but that Canon didn't want to complicate things by adding any ISO 64 or lower.

Anyway - if a 7D2 comes out with a 70D sensor, then I can't see any reason at all why Canon wouldn't have released it almost at the same time as the 70D. It would not make sense to wait all this time just to add better weather protection and a bit better colorimetric functionality.

Because they were adding a better shutter and ran into problems with the way it takes images at 10 per second.

You are speculating wildly.

Isn't everyone speculating? Perhaps canon decided to make sure both issues currently plaguing the 70d were resolved on this body? Unless you have insider info at canon, you just don't know.

You don't know, but at the same time, there's a difference between speculating something like "the 7D II will have 25,600 ISO" and speculating "the 7D will have 4,000,000 ISO!!!!!". The second is not based on any reasonable expectation, the former is at least within the realm of possibility.

At a minimum that would seem prudent.
