I'm guessing over-saturation of that particular model in the market. They seem to be everywhere and almost the standard kit lens anymore for any but the lowest kits.

Probably because people buy the kits and sell the lenses BNIB from the kits for as low as $650-700.. kind of hard to sustain value close to that used.

I think the lens gets plenty of respect. It's a fantastic walk-around lens on a full-frame camera and is a formidable landscape lens on full-frame as well. The low prices are simply due to market saturation...

exactly. with the release of the 5d3 and ESPECIALLY the 6D and both coming as kits many took the kits and sold off the lens.

Even more is when the vendors would do rebates and such. Like me for example. I bought a 6D, 24-105 and Pro-100 printer kit for 1999 after 400 rebate. I sold the camera for 1600 and the lens for 600 so I got a free printer and made 200 bucks.

I'm sure alot of people did just that. Sold off the lens to make the camera cost less.

The lenses were trending used pretty well at 600-650 because it was supplied from the kit. I think the Sigma 24-105 and the drop in price of the 24-70 to about 800-900 used caused the most recent drop. Of course the Canon drop was caused by the Mark 2 release and the Tamron release. My prices are the L.A. used market

When I was splitting up 6D kits, towards the end of that I barely could get $650 shipped with paypal fees for a brand new in box 24-105.

A couple of months after the 5D Mark III came out, I purchased two outstanding 5D MIII bundles from BuyDig and sold everything off except for one 5D MIII body and two 600EX-RT flashes. I sold both 24-105 kit lenses for $875 each and when all was said and done, I ended up paying $2,535 for the 5D MIII body and only $375 each for the 600EX-RT flashes.

haha! Timing is everything...you'd never get $875 for a 24-105 now.

CPW has a street price of $660 on the 24-105L. This is brand new from an authorized dealer with a 1 year warranty. Hard to justify buying 3rd party with a price like that.

don't overlook the new "kit lens" rumored to be announced at Photokina - a variable aperture EF 24-105 STM IS USM.

it's not like the 24-105mm L is all that great...

If the 24-105 was that great or got respect, no one would be getting rid of them. IMO
I have one and I love it.

It's too slow for my needs, otherwise I would have kept it.

I find it to be a decent lens. I had one with my 7D and just repurchased another for my 6D

It's only one stop. Not a major concern w/ the 6D. Lets face the facts here. I find 2.8 too slow for my needs. I shoot at 1.4-1.8 regularly but will use zooms for well.... emergency lol which is why I'm picking up the 24-105... it's cheap and will work great for a backup to my primes ;)
