Hi everyone,
I am new to Milky Way photography and i am learning and find its very interesting.

I just wondering what you guy would choose if you have to choose 1 lens for milky way and star trail shoots:

- Tokina 11-16mm II f2.8
- Tokina 16-28 f2.8
- Canon 16-35 f4L IS (New one)
- or the Canon 16-35 f2.8L II

Start now :D

Honestly, you should get the 24mm f/1.4 II. It's the perfect perspective and it has a very large aperture so your exposure times will be short. At 24mm, I start to see star trails at 15 seconds, but at f/1.4 my exposure time was 10 seconds.

Tokina 11-16 is a crop lens. I think the rokinon 16 f2 is as well but could be wrong.

I've had great results with both my canon 16-35 2.8 and rokinon 14 2.8... If all you're doing is stars, go with the rokinon. If you want an all around versatile lens for any time of day and don't mind spending the $$, go with the 16-35

Roki 16mm and Tokina 11-16 are for crop. The rokinon 14mm is an option, I use the Tokina 16-28 and love it.

Same here. I also have a 5DMK2 and just picked up a sharp copy of Craigslist for $220! Couldn't believe the owner was letting it go for so cheap, but it is good to go!
