1.4 teleconverter with 400 5.6

So I thought the 1.4 mkiii tele should autofocus on 5 D mkiii with the 400 5.6?

Any body try this?

According to Canon website (external link) the answer is yes, with firmware version 1.2.3. Not all points, but yes.

Just tried it and it works....putting the combination on the body locks you into the centre point.

5D3 can now give you AF when using VF with lenses at minimum of F/8.
The 400 F/5.6 with 1.4x will give you 540mm F/8, which works with the 5D3.
Note that the focus points will be less accurate outside the centre with this setup.

I don't think you can even select focus point outside the centre once you mount the combination....I couldn't when I tested it earlier.
