5dIII body replacement cost?

My 5dIII had some nice battle scars but a recent spill out the back of my car on to concrete has cracked the body at the bottom left of the rear LCD. The camera is functioning perfectly (no light leak, focusing perfectly, shutter is fine) but I'm concerned at the loss of weather sealing.

Has anyone had the body replaced by Canon? How much did it cost in the USA?

You've likely been around enough to know that Adorama or B&H are reputable and likely to have the best prices short of going gray market. Google them and check their prices.

I think he means replacement of the housing not the actual camera!

You are probably correct but a simple phone call to a Canon center would be a start. That housing is not cheap and I would guess 2 hours labor would come to $500 tom $600.

Yeah I saw a side door replacement part and that alone was $55, I bet the whole housing plus labour would be a scary number

Sure, if it is working fine, but now has a crack, what else is there to worry about?

I would just use some black epoxy that hardens, that should clear up that area. However the harder thing to know is whether any other seals have been damaged that you cannot see.

Thanks for the responses - on closer inspection it looks like the back plate would have to be replaced. I'll give canon a call tomorrow and see what they say - I'll post the info that I get.

Honestly bouncing out of the car isn't that bad - the 5d3 is surely built to withstand some serious knocks. it's been all good the last few weeks. If canon is a lot I'll probably go the epoxy route - it will look good with some more battle damage

Don't trust the camera. Your family memorable moments could be lost.

Send the camera to me for safe storage,
and buy yourself a new camera.
Might be a good time to trade up to a 1DX

I took it as either "there could be other damaged parts" or "you are careless and have bigger issues with handling your gear."

Sure, I guess for some people, a camera is a tool to be used, and if used enough, it will get quite beat up.

Buy all the necessary cover parts on your own via ebay along with a good proper screwdriver.
Replacing them is 60 minute job tops.
Don't get robbed at any repair store including canon,
