Dragonfly with breakfast and a few feeding bees

Shot these this morning. A question though - I use a 24-70 f4 canon lens that also has a macro setting. Is there a way for me to get the entire subject in focus or more of it in focus? I appreciate the assistance and feedback!

Smaller apertures will get you greater depth of field; more of the subject in focus. So, f/11 will be much better than f/4. Still, don't count on getting the entire bug in focus unless you're shooting directly from its side. The more you angle away from that, less of the bug will be in focus.

The alternative is stacking several images, shot at small differences in focus points. But for that, a tripod and focus rails is usually needed, along with stacking software. There are some folks with very steady hands than can do it handheld, but I'm certainly not one of them.

I like the Dragonlfly and the moth.

Keep in mind that the area of acceptable focus is thin and perpendicular to the lens, then go looking for angles that make the most out of that depth. Also gonna echo what Moose said and stop the lens down to about F11 or so (I shoot up to 5x @ F14).

Really nice set of images, but they all have a lot of noise and the first bee shot would look better if you turned it to the left (counter clockwise).

what lens are you using for macro?

Great shots, thin depth of field is a way of life with macro unfortunately.
