Oh I see you sig shows the 85 1.8 so I guess you already made the choice.

if you're shooting anything older than 6 year old kids sports, you're going to come up short a large majority of the time even with 135mm

people may notice you have a big lens, but it's not like they're going to sit there and stare at you...yeah you might get a couple attempts at glancing at it when you're not looking...

I get looked at with my 120-300 or when I had the 300 2.8 IS. I don't care I and when they make comments I just say thank you and continue on with what I'm doing.

And I agree. Even younger. My 120-300 is my goto lens for anything school related... programs, choir, dance recitals, cheer etc.

I only pull the 135 out if I'm doing stuff like dance or gymnastics where I need every bit of shutter I can and keep the ISO down.

Many thanks for all the helpful replies! Yes, I did go for the 85/1.8 in the end. It should be here later this week, and I'm super excited. I definitely plan on adding a 135L to my kit in the future, and maybe then I'll sell the 85 depending on whats being used more often? I also want to go for the 70-300/4-5.6L too and re-acquiring the 35/2 IS. But alas, those will have to be part of next year's photo budget. Again, thanks everyone.

^ I don't think you need the 35mm at all, while it is nice,
your 16-35L is plenty sharp and your 50L
give you an thinner DOF than either the zoom or the 35mm.
Now just save up for that 70-200 IS f2.8 :D

The 135 provides a "magic" that all the other lenses I have tried can NOT provide. My opinion of course!

135, 100, 85, in that order. Both 85 and 100 are fine lenses, but don't offer the contrast of the 135. 135 is a good amount of reach, where the 85 is outright short outdoors.
