A couple less common warblers showed up last week, the Wilson's, which nests just north of us, and the blackpoll, which nests in the Hudson Bay lowlands. They're always a treat to see.

I have to get myself in gear and install a pond. Very nice, Al. Love warblers but don't see many right around me.

Very beautiful captures. I have no idea how you manage to identify and locate them all. Your work is fabulous!

Thank you all for you kind words. First off, our pond is a huge draw, mainly during the fall migration. Ian, we both live by big water, but there's nothing like a little woodland pool to attract passerines. We have 25 species of warblers in our area, some resident, some migrant. I've seen all but two on our property. Breeding warblers can look markedly different than fall warblers. I get pretty good at knowing what is likely and how they look, but the guidebook is always handy. And I've been known to mislabel a warbler on the MN Ornithological Union website - talk of ignominy! Again, thank you all.
