You just never know who's going to show up to your party, so you better have your camera ready! A lesson I re-learned while sitting on my deck attempting more hummingbird images. That is when the 1st new visitor flew into the tree above me. I never would have imagined that a Yellow-billed Cuckoo would come my way even though I'm clearly in their summer range. After these captures, I have new found respect for the images Luis posted of the Mangrove Cuckoo

I've often wondered why I hadn't seen any Blue Grosbeaks as they too have a wide summer range in which I reside. Well the wait is over, although the best images I have to offer were taken through my sliding glass door. These guys rival the Indigo Buntings for being skittish and I certainly hope to get the chance for perched images in the near future.

And did I mention that unlike the Rose-breasted Grosbeak who seems to prefer sunflower seeds the Blue appears to prefer millet. Maybe they're looking for high energy foods before they take off?

I hope you've found these "documentary" images fun and appreciate the excitement of capturing new species. With Fall migration right around the corner I see these 2 new additions to my list of "preserve" birds as an omen for an active Fall. Thanks for stopping in and checking them out.
