I want to buy either a 5dMkIII or a 1Dx in the next year. I feel like it would be a good idea to get my hands on them and see how they feel...especially the 1Dx because it's a pretty big camera....the issue is there are no camera stores around here. Calumet was someplace to go but they closed up shop. Does anybody know a place in Maryland or Virginia or DC that would have these cameras in their store??

Heya,

Just a thought, if you can't find a store with them on display, you can always rent them and literally use them at home with your glass and see what you think.

Very best,

Embassy Camera at 1735 Connecticut Ave. NW (Phone 202- 483-7448) at one time was top notch.

Yeah I was just looking...around $220 to rent a 1dx for a weekend. Probably worth it before dropping that much cash. I have some time to decide, I am selling my Mustang because I never drive it anymore...and since my preferred hobby is photography rather than car stuff nowadays. Figured it's worth roughly the same as the 1Dx so it's very tempting.

Heya,

It's pricey to rent, but hands on experience NOT in a store, but rather, out where you are actually going to shoot, really tells you whether it's the camera for your or not.

That said, I would also suggest, consider looking at a 1DIV. I see you're looking at the 5D3 and 1DX but didn't look between them at the 1DIV. Easier on budget, while doing what the 5D3 does, and keeping a lot of the features of what you'd want in the 1D series still. Very robust camera. Leaves a lot more room for a second camera and/or some other very good glass.

What do you shoot mostly?
What glass do you already have or will be getting?

Very best,

I have a 7D and lenses listed below in my signature. I would mainly use it for wildlife/bird photography.

Well,

With that budget (1DX) you could entertain two 1DIV's. Put one on that 500F4 and the other on the 70-200F2.8LII. Waterfowl and BIF covered without having to swap lenses.

Very best,
