Hi all,

Most of our songbirds are in the midst of their Summer moult now. Many of them, including the Bluebirds and Cardinals, are quite ragged and not very photogenic. They also tend to stay hidden more, especially as they lose their tail feathers and are temporarily less agile in flight. We do continue to shoot them of course, and those who'd like to see them despite their current appearance can find all our recent moulting shots here: (external link)

So this time of year we turn our cameras mainly to the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, before the adult males leave on their southern migration and while this year's juvie population competes for all the favorite perches. Here are a few recent favorites:

Excellent series of RTHs Kenn!
I sometimes think perched images of these little ones are more interesting than the hovering shots. I certainly have never had two adult males perched that closely together. I will say I agree with Kenny that your last image is a real winner. Something about the pose and the wonderful detail you captured makes it very special. Well done!
