Hey,

Here's a little Behind the Scenes video with the Westcott
Triple Threat and a few Canon 600 EX RT's.

Image shot with the Canon 5D MK III.

given the (retail) cost of three 600EX-RT's, would one not be better off with a profoto B1?

more power and no faffing around. and 1 vs 12 batteries to recharge.

I used to gang speedlights, then after going to the B1 there's no going back for me.

Yeah,

It's good if you already have a few Speed lights
around.

But if you are just starting out I would go with
a Paul Buff Einstein vs 3 speed lights.

But if you already have a few speed lights it's only
around $30 for a Triple Threat.

Not much different then the Cheetahstand TS-H120 and TS fires all the flashes using only one trigger.

It was nice of Westcott to steal the name "Triple Threat" from IDC. The "IDC Triple Threat" is a much nicer product than this one from Westcott IMO. They are machined from solid aluminum and they do hot have the cheesy little clamps which can come loose or even fall apart if the threads get stripped on the clamping screw.

Hi CRAIG,

Thanks for the video (always find your videos entertaining).

However, I cringe at seeing potential hazards such as unprotected umbrella shaft ends(regardless of manufacturer), particularly in public places, that the general public, an assistant or yourself could accidently get "pocked" in the eye (or other body parts).
I know you Maritimers /"Bluenosers" are a tough and everyone has to do their own risk assessment with due diligence, but I find helpful having one of these bright colored mini tennis balls stuffed on the end of all my umbrella shafts (i.e. Westcott's nice 32"s, collapsible 43"s, 45"s, 60"s & 7ft parabolics), any time I occasionally use umbrellas as modifiers.
Mini/Extra Small Tennis Ball:

While I am sure you carry professional public liability insurance, (as do I), but sometimes an ounce of prevention goes along way - "luck favors those that are prepared".

Westcott makes a lot as great value quality products & I enjoy a lot of their products, but found the Westcott Triple Threat Speedlight Bracket was a product that has areas of opportunity for improvement.
In particular, the female metal connecting insert (that mates with the top of a light stand) spins inside my plastic Triple Threat, reducing my confidence in it, so I opted quite a few years ago for what I think maybe a stronger (albeit more expensive) tri-bracket, particularly when used in conjunction with 7ft parabolics - the Lastolite TRI-BRACKET:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …423_TriFlash_Bracket.html (external link)
which also has a built-in pivot which enables you to pivot/alter the angle of the umbrella shaft, or any light modifier one uses with it.

Just one view...

Thanks again for the effort in producing & presenting the video.

Mary
P.S. A few weekends ago, when all I had at an event was 600EX-RT's, then two Tri-Flash brackets combined with two Westcott 60" shoot through umbrellas/two 9ft Manfrotto stands, very effectively and pleasantly illuminated a 90-person group. So, agree with you tri-brackets are a handy tool, when strobes or more powerful lights aren't available.

PLEASE

Dont take this wrong

But

What a fricken waste of $$$ or lame promotional stunt.

Why not take out a CL360 and turn it down to say 1/8 power and have instannt recycle time and better light. You could back that big ol parabolic away a few feet as well and throw on a yn622 and shoot HSS in F/16 light for about 2/3 less cost

I have to laugh at these things these days. Normal speed lights have seen their day. No Thanks

is the Einstein battery powered?
Paul Buff is not easily available here in the UK
plus I like the wide range of modifiers for profoto.

One thing you have to think about before investing
in a strobe system is the cost of a battery pack
and the modifiers.

The Paul Buff Einstein E640 is pretty good quality
for the money and the Vagabond Mini is fairly affordable
as far as battery packs go.

The Modifiers are also reasonably priced.

Also other companies have speed rings for
their modifiers that work with the Alien Bee
style mount.

I'm in Canada, so unfortunately the prices work
out being a little higher for those of us outside the
U.S.A.

As always it also comes down to budget.

The video was just to show an option available to
people who may already own a couple of speed lights.

I wasn't saying, "Hey this is the best option out there,"

More or less, "if you have a couple of speed lights and
an extra $30 bucks you may want to check this out."

Hey guys sorry for bumping an old thread but I am looking for a triple threat for my 3 600EX RT's.

1) There is the Westoctt thriple threat option.
http://www.henrys.com …E-BRACKET.aspx#prodtabs-1 (external link)
But its not in stock at camera stores in Canada, so I found this option,
2) Lasolite Joe McNally Rotating Head Triflash, but it's too expensive !!!
https://www.vistek.ca …ng-triflash-tilthead.aspx (external link)

Regardless of which one I get, I am still curious about 1 thing. Will I be able to tilt the flash angles down when this brackets are attached to a light stand? This is how lighting is done right, from above at an angle looking little bit down. Do I have to get anything else to make them work (except a light stand?)

I already have Opus umbrella mount, not sure if it might help me to tilt the triple threats down ...

Hi, Yes you will still need a swivel or umbrella adaptor - and a reasonably strong one. It goes under the triple threat. 3 or more Speedlites have a noticeable weight to them - and then, maybe 3 packs too?
