Hi,

Hope this isn't seen in a bad light or in any way meant to cause trouble, but I figure if anyone had they'd still come here so it may be worth asking all the same.

I've recently been trying out the Olympus O-MD E-M10 with kit lens (and Oly 40-150R) and have been surprised at just how good its been - sure the noise at higher ISOs isn't anywhere near as good and fast moving AF is pretty much a no-no (so no more BiF - not that I ever got that swift anyway!) but those aside I'm actually considering the jump, so am wondering if anyone else has done it.

Talking on another forum they suggested my current lens lineup could be replaced as follows:

EF50mm ƒ1:8 II - Olympus 25 f/1.8
24-105L F4 - Olympus 12-40 f/2.8
100mm macro - Olympus 60mm f/2.8 macro
135L - Olympus 75mm f/1.8
400mm f5.6 - Panasonic 100-300 f/4-5.6, or better yet, wait for the Olympus 300mm f/4 to be released.
MP-E 65mm (with MT-24EX) - Yasuhara Nanoha Macro Lens 5:1 (w/built in led lights)

Not sure I'd need to do the MP-E 65 though as its manual anyway and I've a converter, but will look it up anyway.

One thing is obvious though and that to fund this sort of setup requires a bit of a sale.

So in short has anyone done it and if so what did they find and were there any regrets?

I bought an A7R. Short story: not versatile enough to replace the 5D3, but love the image quality.

Tracking AF is utterly hopeless (why do they even bother), operation is slow (feels a bit of a lag in everything), noisy shutter and long shutter delay, battery is poor, EVF is a total letdown (for me). Makes me appreciate the 5D3 a lot more. That being said, the image quality did wow me so I am keeping it as a secondary system for casual use and the occasional landscape since I can use EF lenses on it.

I tried the EM1 as well and I think EM1 is a lot closer to a high end DSLR in terms of AF and operational speed.

I must admit the tracking AF (on the M10) is poor - I asked a bit about this and it seems everyone just uses single - but it is very quick so still works on anything thats going no faster than a quick walk.

I did a bit of testing with tracking and it was hilarious - I tried tracking a duck on water and because of the low contract it only wanted to track the water and actively avoided the duck - really funny and frustrating watching the little block dance around the target :)

That said I have seen a few bird in flight shots but from what I understand its either pre-focus or spray and prey.

I would buy the M43 system if your wanting smaller body for casual shooting.

As far as selling off your canon gear.....I wouldn't do so if your accepting the fact that you'll be decreasing your image quality. If your printing your digital files you will find the M43 to do a superb job !! if your wanting to maximize your IQ I would stick with your 5d3. Infact I've printed professionally bound albums and I cannot tell the difference between my 5dmk2 or Olympus EM-5. I may just sit and wait to see what Olympus has to offer since the Oly EM-1 for image quality is not substantially better than my EM-5.

In my particular situation I'm do enjoy my Oly em-5 for stills. My Panasonic gh3 isn't as good as my Olympus when it comes to still photography. However the GH3 for HD 1080 video the M43 system does a great job in auto focus video for personal vids of my children/family&friend events. In the first photo I've removed the LCD viewfinder.

For my personal application I chose the m43 for certain "duties". When I shoot "stills" to meet my higher IQ needs I simply use my Canon gear.
