I have been checking Canon's refurb site daily, sometimes several times a day for this lens. It never seems to be in stock. Am I wasting my time? Has anyone ever gotten this lens refurbished? It is rare to find used, also.

They come up for sale every so often. Check the classifieds here.

I bought one used. It is a very sweet / underrated lens. For some reason it is just not getting the focus (pun intended) that it should. It is good enough that it allowed me to sell my 24-105L and replace it with the 24 f/2.8 IS, 40 f/2.8 (I already had 85 f/1.8 and 135L).

I will be adding it to a 35IS, 50 1.4 & 100 2. I've been shooting my 17-40 looking for how wide I want to go. 24mm seems about perfect, wide with little distortion. I'll watch the sales here, too.

there hasn't been one in stock for 3 weeks...sign up for canonpricewatch.com's notifications for when it comes in stock...they'll send you an email...and if you're quick enough, or there's not a huge demand for it you can grab it...

this way you can stop just hitting the refresh button on there

Geo, it's a sign you should skip it and just get the 24L II ;)

B&H has them (new) and the price isn't bad - $50 over the all time realistic low. Canon lens prices have come down as of last week, so this might be a great time to pop for a copy before the exchange rate goes back up; and it will.

Totally off topic, but George, do I know you? Former employee?

If you use crop you might want to wait for EF-S 24 f/2.8 STM pancake which will be announced in a week :-)

I'll do that. Thanks.

I use both formats, so I am sticking to EF glass. Versatility.

Just checked B&H. $599. I am cheap. I'll wait for used/refurbished.

Kinda curious about the questions. I do live outside Chicago, but have never worked there. If the name prompted you, it is an honorific to my grandfather George J. Krasnesky. If he were still alive, he'd be 115. He worked in Moline until the early 1970s.

OK, thanks. Your username was all too close to someone I had in my employ in the 80's. "Krass" was what I thought your last name might have been. Sorry to bother you with the question.
