My daughter's one year birthday is next month, so I figured it was time to dust off the camera that I really haven't used much in probably 3 years or so. I don't usually do people, so please be gentle. But what techniques and suggestions do you have? I already know that I need a bit deeper DOF. I shot these wide open with my nifty fifty, and at around 1/80th of a second due to natural light. Sorry about the compression, too. Pulled these off my Facebook and transferred them to Flickr. Thanks for any help!!! :)

I like the separation. The bokeh is nice, so I don't think you have any issues with DOF. The limbs cutting bothers me a little bit. Reminds me of a T-shirt I want off ebay saying "I shoot people, and sometimes cut off their limbs". Maybe crop tighter on the 2nd photo? Over all they're priceless pix of the baby. I like the perspective of the last one. I know how challenging toddlers/babies are to photograph, especially on the move! I try to get great shots candidly but the really good shots requires a lot of effort and planning, IMO.

Oh, the limbs being cut off, LOL!! I had totally forgotten about that tidbit of information. Thanks for the reminder! Yes, she's normally on the move, but was entertained by our cat checking us out on a chair behind me, and the fact she knew daddy was sitting on the couch behind HER. So her priorities in life were getting severely worked on, and so she sat still for me for a bit, hehehehe!!! Anyway, I have a big, fluffy, dark pink tutu and a pearl necklace for her to wear on her birthday. I don't think we will do fancy cake smash pictures, mainly because I just have no setup, so we will just go to the park and get photos there. I'm looking forward to it. And once again, thank you for some ideas! :)
