The first to greet you in the morning, the last to see you at night. More than a pet, they are family. We all share in your loss, Brad. God bless you, and God bless Hunter.

I have four labs and have yet to lose one... my oldest is going to be 11 in March. They are such wonderful animals, they make our lives so much richer and teach us so much. I am certain Hunter was grateful for what you gave to him...especially allowing him to retrieve those birds, not much more that they enjoy than what they are bred to do.

I know the feeling all too well, as have others, having gone through the same thing with our beloved German Shorthair. The wife and I had her way before the kids too. Only you will know when the time is right for another companion. Until then take your time to reflect and grieve at your pace.

Sep 18, 2014 21:47 | #28 I'm so sorry. I'm tearing up to your story. It's never easy losing a dog who is your child. I miss my little girl and I wish these "animals" could live until they're 70.
