I think it odd that so often we see a post that wants comments on the processing but does not include a "before" image.

I like the image very much for several reasons...
1) It doesn't look posed - very spontaneous, or "the decisive moment".
2) reasonably good composition (could be better)
3) color balance looks fine
4) exposure looks good.

I think the composition would benefit from some additional space diagonally down and to the right.

I also think the overall level should be raised a bit brighter, bringing a little more detail into the shadow and midtones.

To me, an interesting aspect of the picture is the way the catch light in the rabbit's eyes matches that of the little girl's.

Thanks, its agood point that its a little difficult to comment the processing if an original image is not included. Its basically been sharpened, converted to grey scale on a new layer and then the effect been erased selectively to go back to colour. I am interested in post production criticism mainly because I consider myself to be a long way from an expert in photoshop and when shooting digitally this can be a disadvantage, thanks for the input.

I think it's a great idea getting shots of kids with their toys- it's like an environmental portrait for children. The major problem here is we can't see enough of the little girls face.

What if I told you that I had not noticed the Grayscale background had no color?

Neither good nor bad - as you intended, it's subtle. There are some who comment here that do not like selective colorizing. I can take it or leave it.

Generally speaking, with all of the possibilities for manipulation of digital images, I think that when they are applied tastefully and not just following a fad, then they can be a plus. However, as with framing, you can ruin a picture with a bad or tasteless frame, but you cannot make a bad picture into good picture with the best frame in the world.
