This just confirms that the D800 was indeed the D700 successor

Skill is very important but a fully charged battery is very very important

Yup. Not having a separate AF-ON button, not having a CF slot and 1/4000s max ss are huge negatives for me. D700 x-sync also supports 1/250s (and 1/320 FP) where this one is 1/200s only, so another neg. I also suspect that the weatherproofing isn't up to the D700 standard.

Maybe I'll just keep using my D700 until it dies.

On paper this camera looks to be a very small step up from the d610, but in use it could be better. The 6d initially disappointed on paper but turned out to be great for a lot of users. We'll see

True - there's a comment on DPR that I agree with, which basically says that this is Nikon's originally planned upgrade to the D600.

It should really be called a D620 imo. This is a marketing move that's a little bit misleading as it's not really a D700 replacement in spirit. That crown still goes to the 5DIII.

I'm glad to see another camera have a -3 EV focusing system.

I wish all of the high-end cameras did. :(

The AE-L/AF-L can be configured as AF-ON through custom function. For me 1/4000s is workable.

Look at the weight.

This isn't a D700 replacement. It's an ultralight full-frame DSLR.

Rip d700.

Was really hoping for a d700 follow up. Not a beefed up d600.

Now I have to upgrade my computer before going to the d810 :(

That 20mm costs less than I thought it would.

Agreed on the SS. The best thing that happened to this camera is the 51 AF points! :)
