Wow... two options. A lighter version and a heavier version.

As a purchaser of the Tamron 150-600, I am very intrigued by these lenses, although I am very happy with the Tamron and will not be looking to change.

There is, as of yet, no pricing information on either model. In fact, the Sigma press release says that the weight of the Contemporary (less expensive) model is TBD. I find it odd that a lens has been formally announced and the manufacturer cannot tell us what it will weigh. (The weight of the Sports model is specified, and it is much heavier than the Tamron.) Perhaps these lenses are going to involve a very long wait before they actually appear.

Yup. I would speculate that Sigma felt that they needed to get something out there to slow the Tamzooka's momentum, even if it's a ways off in the future.

I bet they are very quickly trying to remove every ounce possible to get close to the tamron weight. It seems the "C" model will directly compete with the Tamron while the "S" model will be an upgrade.

I like their tactics and definitely did not see this one coming. Very surprising and an excellent move!

Yup! I love to see competition in good IQ, but economically-priced lenses.

Are they supposed to be the same optical formula and the sports version just has better build quality? or is the sports version going to have better IQ I wonder?

One of the other threads said that it's a different optical configuration, with more elements.

I'm thinking the Sport model will be in fact better. Sport model I could see coming in at 2000 while the contemporary model could come in around 1300.

we'll see. I definitely like it though. It's the same lens but not. one heavier, better without any compromise and the lighter version sacrifices a bit on IQ/build probably very similar to the Tamron model

Interesting times! Definitely love the competition for my wallet. I have no reason to add a 150-600 atm but be dam sure if I have the money and a compelling price I will find an excuse!

I also hope the 18-300 is good IQ. Would love to be able to switch out my wifes 18-135 stm with something with more reach, but it has to have better IQ otherwise it makes no sense to do so ;)

It will be interesting to see side by side comparisons/reviews to see how worth the jump will be.

Wow, Sigma is going crazy these days! It's astonishing to see them churning out high quality optics at this rate. So impressed!
