Hear me out...

From what we know so far, there really is nothing that exciting coming from Canon lens wise. They announced the 400 DO II, 24mm pancake and 'consumer' 24-105.

The DO is a bit specialized (or very specialized), the 24mm pancake is bit 'boring', and the new 24-105... Is it really even needed?

Meanwhile, Tamron has announced a 15-30mm f/2.8 ultrawide for FF.

Sigma is bringing two new 150-600mm's which are very popular choices now (see Tamron).

Samyang has a 12mm f/2.8 fisheye on the way for FF.

Zeiss has a new 85mm f/1.4 (very expensive, but still a good offering for Zeiss users).

C'mon Canon... Where is our 35L II? 50L II? 100-400 II? Something exciting?

I hope Canon has some surprises on the way still... While the 7D2 is looking good, the big question is if the sensor has been improved...

Can't help but feel a bit disappointed so far

Got any links? I wasn't aware that anything had been announced yet.

24mm pancake: http://www.canonrumors.com …-s-24mm-f2-8-stm-pancake/ (external link)

24-105: http://www.canonrumors.com …24-105mm-f3-5-5-6-is-stm/ (external link)

400 DO: http://www.canonrumors.com …non-ef-400mm-f4-do-is-ii/ (external link)

They are not formal announcements, but any time CR has gotten detailed spec lists and product images they are nearly always formally announced shortly after (if not already). I guess I should clarify and say "expected" announcements :D

Nothing official yet then. New 400 DO would be tempting.

After 80 odd years in business maybe they ran out of ideas. Other than a new 7D what doesnt canon make that you want?

A 135/1.4 would fit in the range very nicely...about the size of the 200/2

You'd only see that at Zeiss price, though.

I think I'd rather have the current, smaller, lighter, less expensive 135/2.

I'd expect it'd come in around the same price as the 200/2 IS

Of course, smaller, lighter lenses have their place alongside the bigger and faster ones....no argument there.

really we can only wait and see. Hopefully theres something more to what Canon can and will do. If not im not in a huge hurry to upgrade anyways. But I will say this again I wont be recommending Canon to new users nor am i planning to buy any more Canon mount lenses as I will certainly be switching brands

lens wise, i really don't remember the last time canon introduced something that made me feel like i need to get it...sigma and tamron at least come out with innovative lenses...canon comes out with great super telephotos...unfortunately i don't ever see myself owning one of those...the rest is blah stuff...24-70f4IS...woohoo...slow f2.8 primes

actually 35f2IS is a lens that i would consider...but it gets lost amongst all the other lenses they introduce

+1 to all that. The rumor at the beginning of the year - that 2014 would be the year of the lens - now looks laughably off base.
