This gal started out on the wire, then took pity on me and landed on a nice branch for a change....then I noticed she had also caught a light snack....a dragonfly!

I'll have to admit Ian that the only way I've ever seen Kestrels is either on the wing or on a wire. I'm glad this one finally found a branch to sit on!
I love the colors and the poses in the first image on the wire and the first image on the branch. It is also nice that the angle of perspective is not too steep. Those taken together make for very pleasing captures. Here's hoping for more branches in your future!

Steve, I am almost 100% certain this is a young bird, and that it's the same one that lets me approach it every time. This is the ONLY bird, always initially found on the same wire in front of a certain house out in the country, that will sit and look at me, let me drive a bit closer, and even let me get out of the car to get a better shot of it. There is one huge tree that several Kestrels seem to fly into or from and that may be their nesting tree. I too hope it'll spend a bit more time in future on branches!

Good ones, Ian; a tough bird to get close to most times.

Many thanks for commenting Al. Yes, they are tough, usually. And soon they should be gone for the winter. Only time will tell what we will get this winter. After last winter's Snowy invasion, it'll likely pale in comparison.
