Hi all, I just bought a Benro 2682TV1 and I looked around the internet to settle on the BH30 or 40.. but someone on this forum asked and was told that the tripod wont fold back on 2682 since the ball head is too big. one person said you need the tripod diameter to be less than 50mm.

i prefer the lever system used by really right stuff (RRS) or markin q3i or acrotech.. even though i read markins has loose knobs... not sure if thats true.

Well I think you were reading about the 1 series not the 2 series. The V1 head on your tripod has a 56mm base diameter as it is, so you can go at least that big. my 1 series has a 50mm base but I use a 54mm base ball head and it folds up very well.

So if your base is 56mm (just guessing based on the size of the base of your ball head) I am pretty sure that your pod could fold up pretty tightly around anything with a 61-62mm base, maybe even a little bigger I figure I could easly go to 56mm or so (pretty sure benro even sells my 1681 with the same head you have) before it would start to be too big.

I just checked and the bh40 only has a 53mm base diameter, so I am sure it would close just fine, it is an inch shorter than my head though so you might have to position the clamp to get the best fit but that is nothing. The acratech gps (made for travel tripods) also has a 53mm base, I don't think you will have any trouble finding a head to fit that tripod.

It won't close with the BH-40 if it is anything like the Feisol 3441T. The problem with the RRS heads is the lump at the back, not the base diameter. I just remove the head when I need to pack my tripod really small.

The Markins Q3T is designed for travel tripods like yours, as is the Acratech GP-ss. The Markins has a 50mm base diameter and the Acratech has a 53mm base diameter. Both are quality products with excellent build quality. You have the option with both to get either a screw knob or a lever release clamp.

I've used both the Q3T and a GP (slightly larger big brother of the GP-ss). If you want a ballhead that's essentially maintenance-free in extreme environments and also gives you a built-in leveling base then the GP-ss is the one to get.
