Some type of buzzard.

They don't have to be ugly. It depends on your state of mind when you view them. This bird's posture makes it look majestic, and the light was perfect for showing off its plumage.

Very nice captures. I agree they are both majestic and ugly. I've been trying to capture some of the Turkey Vultures, aka Buzzards, in flight, around here. So far I haven't managed a clear shot.

Great Black Vulture shots.
We have them here in AZ. They're less frequent than the turkey variety.
