7D Mark II

Is it true? 7D2 will be launched today? Heard it from a friend.

It will likely be announced at some point this week likely as Photokina (big world wide camera convention) is happening. Chances are it won't be today (sunday) but might well be early this coming week. The 7D is already discontinued and the rumour mill is full of suggested specifications of the new MII (which might be worth reading now as this close to an info-release there is more information spread about).

Note if its announced this week it might not go on general sale for quite some time, so I wouldn't expect it on sale this month, it might come out around Christmas or could even be launched in the new year.

there is 2 or 3 other threads on this, that are several pages long, and yes someone posted its supposed to be a few hours, not a few days they will announce the specs.

Not true.

If the rumored specs are true, this will definitely compete with the 6D. 6D's FF and excellent low light condition performance vs 7D2's dual digic 6 processors and 65 AF points. Surely another headache for consumers.

What? 6D low light and DOF, 7D2 (if it ever exists) FPS and blazing AF. Two different cameras for two different types of shooting. Compete? Really?

Yes, but companies selling the 7D does not represent proof that it isn't discontinued.

Is it still produced? Can the distributors still order new batches of 7D from Canon? For immediate delivery or does Canon honor orders for delivery in december? Are we seeing the supply chain emptying, or does the full supply chain still get replenished?

In that case, you are asking a quite ridiculous question. Proving Canon has not discontinued the 7D is akin to proving Sasquatch doesn't exist. Proving any negative statement is simply impossible. I take that fact that Canon is still selling the 7D as evidence that it hasn't been discontinued. Most reasonable people would do the same.

Exactly. But you decided to write "Not true" when someone claimed it was discontinued, which implies that you know for sure it isn't. "Discontinued" does not mean that a product is no longer available in stores. It means that the supply chain is no longer filling up with new units.

Most probably, Canon wasn't happy with Amazon flagging the body as discontinued without Canon first having made such a statement official. That would have been a breach of a non-disclosure agreement.

But we - or at least I - have not seen any statement from Canon that the 7D is not discontinued, and that any such statements are false.

What is known, is that manufacturers tends to send out notices with date of last buy to their bigger customers to give them a heads up notice when a product gets discontinued. And that this information is covered by NDA so must not be forwarded to end users.

So the probability is actually quite high that the 7D is discontinued.

Last I recall Amazon listed the 7D discontinued/unavailib​le - its kind of what started the huge "7DMII is coming for real" buzz a month or two ago and also started a slump in 7D second hand sale prices (as lots of people started selling theirs in anticipation of the new MII)
