I was just wondering if the 70D is worth it to upgrade. I'm torn thinking its not and I should wait for the 7d2 but that bundle price for the 70D for $799 is tempting. That is the only reason I am looking at it. FPS hasn't been an issue for me but having that WiFi capability and slightly higher ISO performance. AF also hasn't been an issue for me either on the 60D.

I rented the 70d for a weekend and decided for me, it wasn't worth the upgrade simply because of the price tag of $999. For that $799 deal, I would probably bite if I shopped at that company. Keep in mind, the 70d has MFA as well to fine tune your lenses IF they weren't spot on ;)

I upgraded from 60-70D, mainly for the AF, and for that the upgrade is HUGE. Image quality is comparable, but the noise pattern on the 70D is much more pleasant (at least to me), so I find myself using higher ISOs much more often. As far as wifi is concerned, I'm not using it nearly as much as I thought I would. I'm sort of disappointed that the wifi app only transfers smaller jpgs to your phone/tablet- which means other than simple social postings, there's not a lot I ever do with the images through wifi. I don't ever use the wifi with my computer since I can just take out the memory card and transfer files much faster. You can control the camera via wifi, but that's not something I've used yet.

I can't impress how much the AF is improved though- both in the viewfinder as well as live view. It's so much improved over the 60D, and that alone might make it worth the upgrade for some (but then again, so would a 7D). I'm not sure I'd upgrade just for wifi and slightly better low light performance. Actually, if all you want is wifi, I'd recommend a Toshiba FlashAir card, they are very easy to use, and although slower to write to than a UHS card, offer a better wifi transfer than the 70D. You won't be able to control things with it, but it's worked well for me.

If you do video, an emphatic YES! If not, the AF system is about the extent of it. I don't need it. You may.

At that price , go for it. I paid full price when it was released and have been glad since day one. Within 2 weeks I sold both my 50D and 60D and never looked back . Will upgrade when a new model showes up with all thats in the 70D plus more . I love the touch screen and the articulating screen , MF , wi fi , and the focus is great , and the video with the STM lens . Till then I just shoot away .

Thanks everyone. I love my 60D but for $799 for the 70D, printer and other items, it's not a bad deal.

I completely forgot about MFA, I never used it so I don't know how it is but I know what it does and how it can help.

I don't plan on doing video but I just got a request to film a football game but this is probably the only time. I have been happy with my AF. I use center point and that's it but if this has zones like the 7D, it might be great for me.

I didn't have any need for WiFi until I used my wifes camera and transferring photos is a breeze for the quick upload to social media.

I'm also figuring I might be be able to sell that printer off but then again, I might use it.

Any more thoughts on this? A refurbished 60d can be had for $460 through the loyalty program. 70d's aren't included, and the best I can find now is $1099 on a body only. That's a pretty big difference.

So you want to pay $800 for Wifi basically.

The clear answer is no.

Wait for an actual upgrade. The 7D2 sounds like something you're waiting to get.

But depending on what you shoot, have you considered the substantial 6D?

You mentioned Wifi, better ISO, and you're not concerned with robust AF or high FPS. So maybe something like the 6D is better for you?

Very best,

I just moved to Canon earlier this year from another brand and initially bought the 60D which is a great body imo. I soon found myself wanting a 70D and always kept 2 bodies anyway. I absolutely love the touch screen on the 70D and the wifi. I'm also impressed with the ISO performance but that may not be a good comparison since all I'm using on the 60D is 2.8 lenses. It has been worth it to me.

i have both,{my 60d was stolen from work and my company got me 70d then i got my 60d back when thief tried to sell on Facebook} i luv both but as mentioned the touch screen is the deal for me,i didn't think it would be important but using phones and iPod were so accustomed to pinch zoom this was so natural, also as mentioned the iso performance is a bit better,i usually don't go higher than 800 on the 60d but I've used 1600 regularly on the 70d and didn't have to remove much noise in post,if u can get one for 799 with some other toys thats a screaming deal, jump on it

Very best,

I didn't go for it. I had it in my cart and was looking at other items then I just somewhat stopped and closed the browser. Good thing I did because I saw the G7x and I might take a bite on that. It's compact (something I wanted) that shoots RAW and has Wifi. This will help me more with my travels and I can bring my camera where ever I go.

Like I said before, my 60D has been fine. I have been happy with the FPS and the AF. I learned to work with it. I'm sure the faster FPS and better AF will help me but I can work with the 60D.

6D has been something I thought about but I like the crop factor. And at that price, I will need to pay a bit more for a wider lens since my 17-55 won't work on it. That leaves me with 40mm as my widest.

I have a 60D and really like the performance I get up to at least ISO 800 or a bit more. I am tempted by a 6D, but would like to,see prices come down a bit more before I bite. I don't need the faster AF of the 70D and 7D2, but would like better low light performance.
The 60D does better on low light than anything I could get from film, back when I used my Minolta 35mm cameras. I do moss the viewfinder you get from full frame.

I jumped when I found it on Amazon for $900, mainly for the WiFi, but it turns out the AF is [I]so much[I] better, too. If you have the spare cash and can sell the 60D elsewhere, I'd highly suggest it.
