What a great week for birding here in Wisconsin. Fall migration is in full swing, and the high arctic breeders are coming through. Here's the six lifers I've seen this week. I get a kick out of seeing these birds knowing that if I were up on Ellis Island, I'd be seeing a similar sight.
Whimbrel. Not very often seen here.
Ruddy Turnstone - A semi regular migrant. Not every year.

Sanderlings - Not so uncommon here during migration, but folks tell me we rarely see so many in one spot as this. 50+

Baird's Sandpiper - Not terribly common either. Guess they usually migrate through the plains, not along the Great Lakes, but the juveniles like this one get off track.

Semipalmated Sandpiper. Here in front of a Sanderling. What a small bird, but sure was FAST!

Semipalmated Plover. Seen here with a Sanderling on the left.
