Canon officially announces the 7D Mark II

^speaking of I'd love to see a pic of the actual GPS component--just to see what one looks like; camera or phone. I have a couple cams with integral GPS and never used any Not saying I usually know where I am but I am willing to accept the here as now

This is the one used in theiPhones I believe. there are many other manufacturers. The chips themselves are very tiny.

The phone ones are network assisted, the camera ones will not be and so need to do more work to get the signal. From your perspective though it will be a small surface mount chip, probably on the back of a patch antenna which will dominate the size.

Plus more reach with my lenses. I preorder, I've never done that before. I am excited for this a s a second body to go with the 5D MKiii.

Quick question - is there a semi reasonable priced way to add wireless communication to the 7D II? Seems the Canon version add-on is 600-850 $ which seems kind of crazy.

I don't know if it will work with the 7DII (I assume it will, perhaps needing a software update?) But I use a Camranger with my 7D. It's a bit fiddly if you want to run around with it attached t the camera, but I assume you don't want it for that. It works brilliantly with Android phones and tablets and it's OK (average) with PC laptops. They cost around £270 sterling in the UK

I just watched Scott Kelbys review and Peter read millers review of the 7D2 and it might be the first digital camera I buy new since I bought my first EOS rebel in 2004. Since then I figure I would wait and buy used bodies from those that were not happy with there purchases. I spend my money on other gear since it has a longer life spand that the body. I read long ago you commit to a camera system , then you marry the lenses and date the bodies and that info has served me well. Even a Speedlite hase a longer life span than a body.

I bought my first digital SLR in 2004. I think it was late summer or early fall so it was over ten years ago now. Before that I use my canon AE-1P for my serious photography. At the time if I would have known that my FD lenses would not work on the the EOS bodies but any nikon or rather nikor lens would work on their dig atl bodies I might have went to the nikon system.

But I had the rebel before the info was discovered. I still have my old film camera more as a symbol of my youth and photography than as a useful tool. Back then I did buy a nikon cool scan IV negative/slide scanner as I thought I would buy, process and scan the slide film but the digital images were as good as my scans of my film. So I went all digital.

Back to the point. The 7D2 is rugged with the mag alloy body and wx sealing. Scott kept commenting while shooting college and pro football games he forgot that he wasn't using his 1Dx at times as the auto ISO and buffer were almost as good. He shot at 16000 and the images were good enough for most uses without running noise reduction which he never uses. There were a couple of menu tweets that he suggested to canon for the release model.

The Peter Read Miller talked about the auto focus being as good as the pro sports model from canon,

They both said by canon releasing these features in a body for the street price of $1799 they are giving the tools to most everyone that shoots sports and wildlifefor under $2k instead of the current $6.7k that is the current price and by putting them on a 1.6 sensor they really lowered the cost since now with a 1.4 and a 70-200 you have the multi thousand dollar reach of before. Kelby had a shot longwise across the football field using a 400mm and iirc 1.4 TeleConverter and it was really close in over 140 yards away.

No wifi because of the body, GPS built in. Wifi would have been nice for some workflows if I was to shoot pro again. I could have the images sent to a NAS and have a kiosk setup for customers to review while I'm shooting. Not ideally the best thing but for a one man show it works better than having to miss so of the action ot have them wait for hours while all the cards from the event are downloaded. I solved the later by dumping the cards to a hyperspace color udma2 during the event now they just have to wait on the import I. To LR for viewing. If I used bridge or ACdc to show my raw images it would be ready off the bat. But it's quicker to dump the cards to the drive plus it gives me an immediate backup while I'm still shooting I don't over write or rather reformat the cards until after the images have been backed up on import in LR. That gives me two copies of the origin files and a dng copy of my raw files. Then I reformat the cards preparing them for the next shoot.

With the size of the 7d2 files I'll need to buy some larger cf cards and some wd cards since its dual carded. I'm not the fan of the sad durability but I understand they are fast tech than a cf can hope to be. The drive has a sd slot also. I'm Not sure how I'll use the dual cards yet probably have it setup for redundancy over extra storage or raw and JPEG since I'm not a JPEG shooter even for sports. I rather have raw data and work at my trigger timing that shoot and spray like some. Yes I use the buffer time to space my shots out. But I'm not a football photog that's got to follow the action for over a minute at a time my event are usuall less than 60 seconds per contestant. If not then there out of the top anyway and their images will be for fun. Rather than a memorium of a winning event or run.

Again I'm gonna have to pocket some money to be able to buy new and sooner than I origin planned for.

It's not only noise but look in the difference of sharpness and detail.
I'm sure i keep my 1D mark iv

All those show is a comparison of the two cameras' in-camera JPEG processing. They don't really tell us as much about the comparative image quality if shooting RAW and processing properly. You can download the RAW files from IR and do your own processing for what might be a more accurate comparison. And what do I see in that comparison of teamspeed.
Exactly the same . When using the usm method on both pictures,
the 1d iv have a lot less noise and is sharper, and beat hands down the 7d ii.
