1. The developer has to make sure the firmware for the router will work with the 7d2.
2. The 7d2 uses USB 3.0, which might make the camranger-like solution difficult?

I have a USB3 disk that works just fine with my USB2 ports, and have never heard of a compatibility problem, so I'd suggest pointing in another direction!!:)!!

don't think of the newer battery as more power, because it probably not. If any, very minimal. When the new battery for the new 1D happened, it had something to do with compliance to Japanese regulation.

USB 3.0 is backward-compatible with USB 2.0. They will just talk at 2.0 speeds instead of 3.0 speeds.

Archer how does that affect the potential connectivity of the DSLR controller via the TP-LINK TL-MR3040 3G/4G and the 7Dii.....or does it :)

I have no idea. I was just responding to TeamSpeed's comment about USB 3 being a potential trouble spot.

I had a laptop for work that came with usb 3.0 and 2.0. The 3.0 wouldn't work with 2.0 devices until the controller was reprogrammed. Probably just a fluke tho

^^ BIOS needs to have legacy USB enabled. Kind of silly but this has been the norm for awhile with every motherboard I've worked on.

Ah, I knew that too, cause I just built a new gaming pc this spring. In the case of my ThinkPad, the IT guy had to install new usb 3.0 and host controller. Not sure why

A link to Arthur Morris' blog on AF. http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/ (external link)

Apparently he is as hard on himself as the equipment.

The question is that whether the MR3040 custom firmware can access and control the 7D remotely or not. The 7D having a USB 3.0 port now instead of the mini USB 2.0 port, going to the MR3040 may not work, either due to USB, or new command structures in the 7D for live view, video, settings, etc. A new camera and its utilizing of USB3.0 may complicate the current implementation of DSLRController and the MR3040 firmware.

What each of your motherboards can or cannot do or what your prior devices manufactured by a large company garnering global market share has no bearing in this situation, because this is a 3rd party customized solution involving hacked hardware. You cannot make any assumptions here on either point. ;)

As far as USB3 devices plug into USB2 ports then mostly yes. But as far as USB3 ports goes, it need specific drivers to work, and not only that. Some ports cannot be use as bootable device. Say you wanna make Linux bootable USB drive, you probably safer stick with USB2 ports.

Once you have the proper driver on the USB3 port's host, plugging USB2 into USB3 ports works fine too.
