Normally I would agree with you, but I have my 7D as my primary body. I'm renting a second from LensRentals, but I would be just as happy to have the 7D2 (with my familiar 7D as the second body if I get in trouble).

That would make sense. Again, have a great time.

I can understand how you feel. I'd feel a bit intimidated taking a new camera on such a trip as there will certainly be a learning curve. Possibly not as big a deal for you moving from the 7D to the 7D2. I don't know the circumstances of your trip but I find sometimes the days go by so fast there would be little time to "play" with a new camera to learn all the features. Have a great time with whatever camera you take a long.

I think there are enough differences between the 7D and the 7D2 that I would certainly not bring the new body without a familiar one to fall back on in a pinch. The trip is a small photographers' group (Naturescapes) so there would be understanding folks with me, but I want to come back with a load of 'keepers'. Thanks for the wishes - I'm psyched!

...I'm psyched!

I would be also! :)

I hope someone will be home to take delivery of your new camera if it arrives while you are on your trip.

Whoever would buy used 7D at $1400 would not very well be inform, when you can buy a 7D2 which is better in every way for $1800 and not to mention CUSA warranty. I still wouldn't think a used 1D4 would go down to that point early, maybe an extremely beated up one.

Pretty sure has was talking about 7D2 price there.

As for 1D4 price. I bought two last year, one for around $1500 which was a beater but still worked fine and the other for around $2500 which was in very good condition. I had a look a few weeks ago and there were two low shutter count bodies for sale for around $2000 each.

Here is a different option that would net you a bit of Amazon cash. Apply for the Amazon card, and get $40-50 off your purchase, but then also receive Amazon cashback when buying the 7D2 from Amazon. You could save somewhere just south of $100 from the deal, you can apply that savings toward cards or other accessories.

Amazon offers cashback on the 7DII? Is this similar to what they used to have (2%?) in the past?
I have an Amazon CC.

They offer 3% cashback on any Amazon purchase using the Amazon CC (managed by Chase I believe).

From the web site:

1% Back on all other purchases

I think the purchase on amazon.com has to be sold by amazon.com to get the 3%, and the 7D2 is.

Quick question - I have a 5D3 with 4 x LP-E6 batteries. From what I gather, these would work in a 7D2 also. But would the 7D2's LP-E6N batteries work in a 5D3??
