Quick question - I have a 5D3 with 4 x LP-E6 batteries. From what I gather, these would work in a 7D2 also. But would the 7D2's LP-E6N batteries work in a 5D3??

From what I understand at this point, yes. They just have more capacity but the same connectors and voltage. I am looking forward to this as I have 3 LP-E6 batteries for my 7D1 and will have 2 LP-E6Ns with my 7D2 (I ordered a spare) and I plan on using them interchangeably.

Yeah I would hope they work, I will prob have 4 E6 and 2 E6N so I hope I can mix them up without any trouble.

They are interchangeable, Canon stated this in their various release interviews/notes.

As I understand it, the battery life on the 7D2 isn't as long as that on the 7D1 so they made a battery with longer life (a bit more mAh). Everything else about the 2 is the same.

For those that have pre-ordered through Adorama, what kind of email notice did you get? The email I received simply said the item is backordered; it didn't say "preordered" or give any info about potential shipping dates. (The order was placed on Oct. 12). So I am wondering if I am so far down the list that there is no way I will receive one in the initial shipment. Of course I also realize that Adorama may not yet know how many units they will receive to sell.

With that token would the 7D grip work on the mark II? Just wondering (or more like hoping...):p

They offer 3% cashback on any Amazon purchase using the Amazon CC (managed by Chase I believe).

Discover gives you 5%
(I guess Chase too)
between Oct-Dec

P.S. : Chase will also give you $100 bonus if you open a new card..

I ordered from Adorama and got the same email. I ordered on Sept 17. I checked today and my order says back ordered. Thay are still quoting November 2014 for delivery. I did click on the order button for one and it came back they are out of inventory. I suspect that means their initial allocation is sold out. Where you stand on the list is hard to say. I would guess you will be a few days behind the earliest orderers.

I pre-ordered from Adorama in the early morning of Sept. 15 and got the same e-mail. I don't think there is any way of telling how far one is down the list short of calling them.

So, I'm starting to think about CF and SD cards for the 7D2.

I have a 40D with a 10 MP sensor now and each raw image is 10 to just under 15 KB. What size raw files are folks seeing with a 20 MP sensor?

Also, I have no experience with video demands and requirements. The manual says 30 MB/sec or faster. Is there any advantage to faster?

Any other thoughts about CF and SD cards for this camera from folks using something more recent than a 7 year old 40D?

The 70D files hover around 24MB.

I've been happy with 32GB Sandisk "Extreme" CF cards with my 7D1. I don't do video, but these cards haven't had trouble keeping up with the RAW file buffer. I get well over a thousand RAW images per card. I have one 32GB "Extreme Pro" which cost considerably more and I've noticed no difference in performance between the two types. I just ordered a pack of 2 more 32 GB Extremes from Adorama for ~$115 in anticipation of the new camera.

I've been told that SD cards are considerably slower, but I have no experience. They are certainly less expensive than CF's. I have a couple of Sandisk Extreme's for my Olympus TG-3 and I plan on trying them in the 7D2.

Thanks. I was guessing something in that area. I'm looking forward to the flexibility the higher MP image will bring but I am not looking forward to the slower workflow dealing with the larger image size. Lots to learn and relearn with a new camera. One of the attractions for me.
