Yes, I'm seeing SD cards a lot slower than CF but still above the 30 MB/Sec recommendation.

I am assuming video is more demanding than RAW images in continuous mode.

Stupid(okay, may not be stupid) question about using Discover card for 5% cashback. While it did say 5% from merchant like amazon, it does also listed paypal. Does that mean you could tie the paypal to discover card, and then say buy at B&H or other eTailer that accept paypal, and use discover via paypal that way and get 5% cashback?

Yes.

Remember the 5% is up to $1500 for the quarter so the max cashback is capped at $75.

Nope, quite the reverse in fact.

According to page 334 of the manual the most demanding video modes write data at around 650 MB/min - or about 11 MB/s (not sure why they demand a 30 MB/s write speed for CF cards).

Assuming 25MB for a raw file at 10 fps you're throwing 250 MB/s at the buffer.

All images(including moving one) are compressible. Even RAW files are compressed, they are just lossless rather than lossy like JPG. In the case of video, even if you shoot 1080p at 60fps. That's about sixty 2MP files in a second, at first glace, that's a lot more still images. But in video, from one frame to another, only partial of the whole frame are changing, meaning majority of the detail information are carry on from frame to frame and they don't need to be stored multiple time. Also the video are generally lossy compressed. If you are comparing uncompressed video to the burst RAW, then yes it's much more information. In fact nobody store them on those tiny flash storage. They all are generally send all the uncompressed video out via HDMI cable to another device which you can save the video to something like very large SSD. Unless you have the money to buy camera/camcorder that can record uncompressed to the flash, which already expensive in itself. You are also looking at recording to something like U3 SDXC or CFast flash. If you wonder how expensive those flash card are, a Sandisk 120GB CFast 2.0 card will cost you $800 at B&H.

They offer 3% cashback on any Amazon purchase using the Amazon CC (managed by Chase I believe).

oh, I knew that (and use that all the time).
It's just that in the past sometimes they had an extra 2-4% amazon reward points (?) on certain cameras, which you could also apply to future purchases. I thought that's what you were talking about.

Chuck Westfall at Canon US says that the cameras will be shipping from the warehouses to the authorized dealers on Oct. 30, so we probably won't get them for a few days after that.

You are the first one to report a shipping notice. I pre-ordered with amazon on 9/15 and other than the general release date of 10/30 on the website I have not received an actual shipping date. It seems amazon has not been the quickest in the US with past Canon camera releases being behind B&H and Adorama if I remember correctly. I guess we will see this time around.

Preordered it yesterday, would love it if I got it on the 31st as I'm shooting a game on Nov. 1st and Canon is sending me the 300 2.8 ii.

I'm grumbling because I fly to the Galapagos on Oct. 30 and that is the day the warehouse is shipping to distributors.

Wait, what? You are grumbling and flying to the Galapagos? Think about it! Bucket list trip for me and many others. Your 7DII will be there when you get home. Enjoy.

well one thing that I can foresee is that some people will not be happy with the AF, Noise, DR or that it's lacking some feature that they really need.

I'm sure there will be some that say, well I can't shoot above ISO800 on this camera, it's just too much noise.

some just can't understand how to get the best from the AF and claim that the camera is shooting out of focus.

and of course people will incorrectly expose a photo and expect to pull out the blacks and expect no noise.

that's just my guess.
