Hi guys,

So to start of, I have nothing against apple products, I think their sleek and sexy looking, but the price is just out of my range for the most part. Lets not make this into a PC vs Mac war... just need advice

After looking and trying out some laptops, I purchased HP Envy with i7 4700QM and 16BG ram and GT740m 2GB video card. I thought this would be more than enough for my editing needs in lightroom and photoshop. Unfortunately this was not good enough as it lagged once I started to flip through the RAW files... compared to macbook pro i7 that my friend uses.

My question is, why do the Macs perform so much better for these types of tasks compared to others?? its it the pre installed items from factory that slows other down? or is it just the nature of the OS that allows the mac to perform 2-3x faster?

Im ready to invest in the Retina 15" if that is the best option and purchase, just wondering if the 8GB ram is good enough or should I invest and add 16GB myself?

any thoughts would be appreciated...
