Five year wait for this and that's the best they got? Sony and Fuji must have Canon quaking in their boots. At least they innovate. Kinda like Apple, people ewing and ahhing over bigger screen phones when Samsung has had it for years.

Everything I'm seeing leads me to think this is going to be an outstanding camera for Bird Photography. Can't wait to get my hands on my own copy; just in time for Christmas!

It will probably be the best wildlife camera made.

If the sensor can play nice. I might actually consider this over a FF set up. hmmm....

If you have a 1.4 lens, it will always AF at 1.4, regardless if the AV mode is set at f8? I must be missing the intent of the question?

I think he was asking about the 1.4x teleconverter, at first I thought he meant f/1.4 too, the question was not well worded.

Ah, okay, that makes sense then. However the camera doesn't care if there is a 1.4x on the lens, it just cares about what the new reported minimum widest opening is for the lens/TC combo. If that is greater than f8, the camera won't even attempt AF. If it is f8 or wider, then it will.

Yes, you will have a 560mm f8 lens, and that should AF.

.....and in my case for Christmas it will AF a Canon DO ii with 2.0 TC iii, of course no great hopes of immaculate IQ with the combo but I was surprised with the 300 2.8 with 2.0 TC so one can always hope.

can't wait for the early owners to try this and if it is acceptable IQ I might sell or trade my ef300mm f4l for 400mm f5.6l, Another thing to look forward to with 7D2. I wonder if the IQ will be ok also with ef300mm F4L + 2.0x TC with 7D2 since it will f8 for the combo.

Yikes on the MSRP. I'm spoiled on what I paid for my used original 7D. Can't wait to see some of the reviews.

The rumor was it was going to sell north of $2K so $1799 isn't bad considering it capabilities. I have a 7D and was waiting for the MKII but got tired of waiting and went full frame with a 5D MKIII over a year ago and I don't regret that decision. However this looks like a great camera based on the specs.

People spreading those rumors of prices weren't very aware of historical trends.

This was my prediction and gave Canon 2 paths, either a revolutionary new body/sensor, or a tweaked 70D with more features.

Happily I was off by $100 in the right direction. :) I am probably off $100 for the 80D too, unless the new sensor tech they are patenting starts to appear in that release.

Did anyone preorder this from Camera Canada? Did you get an email from them today asking for Canadian address info?
