Yeah, I am having a debate with myself about the 70D. Oddly, it does have a couple of advantages on the 7D2 that I might miss in some circumstances... And having a second body in case of emergencies also has some appeal.

So, for those who are using a CF based camera, what compact flash cards do you recommend? I'm using the SanDisk Extreme Pro SD cards in my 70D with good results, but I'm debating dual recording with RAW to CF and jpeg to SD.

I'm using the Lexar Professional 1066x CF cards in my 7D and 5DM3 with great results. They might be overkill in speed capability for these two bodies, but I got a good price on them a while back and figured I might have something faster (7DM2) in the future.

Yeah... I really don't like Lexar's speed numbering. Just give me the MB/sec rating on the thing. I see a SanDisk extreme pro 160MB/sec 32GB on Adorama for $100. Expensive per gig for CF.

So I got it this afternoon. The sun was going down fast, and I had no time to set up the camera or even browse the manual. I took it down to the local park and shot what was there, and then took one of our backyard cat. I will get the AF setup and configure the buttons the way I like in time to take it to Point Reyes this weekend with a big white and go raptor hunting.

This is NOT meant to be a test or any kind of comparison. Just some pics from a production camera in the wild. I believe a duck is customary!

my understanding is that 20mp (or even 18) on a crop at 100% looks smudgie... so not quite worth pixel peeping... such is my understanding...

Not always. You need to have a well focused shot and the shot will not be smudgy in my experience.

regardless... hopefully someone asking for a 100% crop has oodles and oodles of experience of what to look for in terms of 15, 18, and now 20mp crop sensors... (and what lens did they use - and yes was it a well focused shot - and was it cropped, and processed, and how, etc, etc, etc) so as to come to an informed verdict

So far yes, but I only took about 20 shots so far with no set up. These shots were all done handheld on the fly. I'm sure someone far more capable than I will do some proper tests in the next few days. I'm not good enough with DPP and really I have better things to do with my limited time than pixel peep at some throwaway shots.

Honestly the only thing I really care about is how the finished shots will look when I print them, and I hope to get some keepers when I go after the elk, hawks and falcons this weekend

but will the duck survive with the New "AMASS!" forum version - or will a new species mascot emerge?
