In this gym I shoot between 4000-6400. Most of my high school images are for the paper and web. Also I really don't clean them up in PP because of deadlines.

if you were travelling overseas, (Cambodia) would you take the 7DII and 15-85 and perhaps a 200 lightweight prime? Im trying to work out a light set up for when I go there. Its hot and sticky and the idea of changing lenses all the time does not appeal to me at all. I do have full frame but really not keen on taking it along with 24-70L and something longer. Maybe I could pick up a cheap 50mm for possible low light shots as well

It's been a long time since I contributed to the thread. I was happy with the cold snap here in the midwest as it has the Des Moines river frozen over pretty well and the bald eagles are congregating at open water again. I love this time of year!
There were 2 distinctly different but equally bad shooting conditions this weekend. Saturday was grey, dark and gloomy with snow at times near blizzard conditions. Sunday was -11 F when I left home to go sit along the river, the sun was up and I thought that would make for awesome shooting, however, the river was blanketed in a 3 foot steam as the water was that much warmer than the air temp.
That being said, it was very fun and I got some keepers. Here are a few.

Awesome shots. Roughly how much linear cropping are you doing to yield these with the 400mm?

I primarily shoot ice hockey from my boy's team but enjoy travel and other as well. Fantastic camera!

Your door rink appears to spoil you with much more light than other rinks.

The outdoor skating shot is pretty confusing, where was it? (In contrast to your OC location listed under your thumbnail.)

You'll want to decide whether you want to optimize for reach/ wildlife and field sport, or Noise. I have said that the 7dii is about 1.5 stops improvement in its results (PP) than the original 7d. This stems from sensor improvement for high iso along with the much easier to handle and live with fine grain noise, either with or without NR.

Funny how things work out. Was just looking through a hard drive and found these 2 images and thought to post them to show high ISO. Ran them a bit through lightroom and croped about a third out. The bird jumped on a fence just before I got home so snapped a shot off in M with autoiso so first ones at 10000. Spun the wheel a bit for the second to get the shutter down so ISO 2500. Guess its a fair comparison.

hi julie i travel os bit and if its africa or maybe india ( wildlife ) i always take a 400 but for that kind of trip (although never been to Cambodia) but have been to Europe and England a few times and to Singapore many times and also Thailand etc i would take the 15 -85 (or a 24 - 105) and also the the 200 f4 but i also take a 1.4 extender in the bag and i usually dont change lenses much and kind of just go with what i have on the day ( but thats of course if i had a good 7d mk11 - as sadly still having focus issues with it and its headed back to canon in Sydney after new year for them to have another go at it )

The first 2 in that set are only cropped for composition, not much removed at all. The second 2 are heavier crops. I'm not sure how to quantify it, I'm not very aware of that when I crop stuff. I will see if I can post an original of one of those shots.

Thanks gschlact. I have a feeling I am going to go with the 7dii for now, which will be an upgrade to my 70d, and later pick up a 6d for portrait work for the shallow dof and bokeh. If at that point if I want better noise control for indoor sports I can make do with the 6d.

The outdoor shot was at a tournament in Keystone CO. The rink was on a 5 acre pond that was really cool.

I have the 7D2 and 6D. The 6D for sports is not a good option if you are going to use it a lot because of the 11 point AF and much slower FPS. It is usable and I have done it but I would choose the 7DMKII everyday for every sport.

Pretty happy with these shots I got of a monitor lizard or as Ive always known them, racehorse goanna. crusiing across the road recently. I jumped out of the car, was having difficulty getting the lens steady to photograph him. This is with the 7DII and the Tamron 150-600 so basically as its a crop sensor camera I am trying to handhold 960mm, It was only a little later I noticed that the image stability on the lens had been turned off. So the fact that they are so sharp is why Im so happy with them
