Peter,
Happy Holidays!
I like the look of contemplation in this composition.

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I have been told dozens of times about my own photos, the hardest skill is often self critique. I have seen so many excellent images from you both in composisition and technical excellence, I feel this shot is slightly sub-par for you on the technical side. The focal plane landed is on the unkempt belly feathers, leaving the head slightly soft.

Again, please don't take it the wrong way. I have only grown in my own mostly sports photography through others' critical eye.

Regards,
-Guy

No problem Guy I appreciate it you telling me what you think about it, And in this photo that could be the result of adding a 2x Teleconverter plus I am not sure where my focus point aim, I normally aim my focus in the eye or in the head. I appreciate your observation. Merry Christmas.

It's been a long time since I contributed to the thread. I was happy with the cold snap here in the midwest as it has the Des Moines river frozen over pretty well and the bald eagles are congregating at open water again. I love this time of year!
There were 2 distinctly different but equally bad shooting conditions this weekend. Saturday was grey, dark and gloomy with snow at times near blizzard conditions. Sunday was -11 F when I left home to go sit along the river, the sun was up and I thought that would make for awesome shooting, however, the river was blanketed in a 3 foot steam as the water was that much warmer than the air temp.
That being said, it was very fun and I got some keepers. Here are a few....

Not a fan of spiders but I like these ones, we always called them Christmas spiders as kids, they are Austracantha minax, commonly known as the jewel spider as well as Christmas spiders

The 7D2 is truly an amazing camera, photographed my first NFL game on Saturday, had some pretty good photos until my 70-200 2.8 started having issues. Back focused on the defender here but had some really unusual bokeh as well. Luckily I was loaned a 70-200 2.8 at half time to shoot with and it worked great, I'm not looking forward to the repair bill -?
