I've lived here my whole 53 years and have never seen a Short-eared Owl until this year. Unfortunately, they only seem to come out in bad light. I'm envious of Colin and Mark's shots above.
This was an interesting sequence though....
Right at sunset, this SEO hovered above the ice, then dove and punched through it. She came up with a big, fat mouse for her efforts. Their hearing must be amazing !
