try 1/1250 at 2.8 and meter it with a light meter
Ill bet you can go 2.8 1/1250 at 2500 or 3200 and it will be sharper
not that its bad

One thing I'm going tol have to do is put a piece of gaffer's tape over the small wheel on my battery grip. Shooting with two camera bodies when I sometimes put one down next to me to pick up the other one, I hit the wheel on my leg raising my shutterspeed by accident. I have to keep checking to make sure my shutterspeed hasn't changed and sometimes I forget. And when I do check, I see I shot ten photos at 1/2500 or something like that.

1/1250 at 2.8 would definitely work. I'm usually shooting on auto-ISO.

When shot a NFL game I noticed a lot of the NFL photographers shooting in AV Aperture priority.

With the 7D2, I gotten to where I like to shoot in manual mode setting the aperture and shutter speed where I want it and putting the ISO on auto ISO. Then I use exposure compensation if I need it. I have that set up where I can hold the set button in and rotate the top wheel to dial in some exposure compensation.

But with sports, as with any photography situation, there is more than one way to do it.

I don't use E.C. very much. One situation would be outside sports where I have a lot of backlighting. Increase the E.C. in that situation. I don't use it that much.

A little tree frog, my first. From the Dominican Republic. This fellow was tiny and inconspicuous, looking like a blob of dirt. Most would not have spotted it even standing next to it.

Funny.
I've only ever seen one in the flesh and didn't have a camera, only a fly rod.

Sliding off topic here but...

For the past few years we have had problems with mostly owls and wolves. Seems they like dog meat. They come in to town and hunt. Within the past six months I know someone whose dog was taken by wolves (they found the head) as well as knowing someone else whose little dog was taken right off the front lawn within minutes of the dog being put out to do his business. A few days ago someone else I know posted a video on Facebook. His wife had just gone out with the dogs and an owl came in for a snatch and grab but missed. Amazing. Guess he has a security cam or some such watching his door.

Beautiful birds but maybe not if you own a small dog.

Rod
