I suspect that's more the Tamron lens DOF than heat, but I could be wrong. That was my first impression when I saw it.

its the heat,I could see it with the naked eye in the distance

At that focal length the lens really magnifies the effect. It will show up in shots even when it not clearly visible to the naked eye. One of the down falls of long lenses I guess.

Okay, back in my element All I've been doing lately is taking family holiday photos. Went to shoot a double header basketball game yesterday evening.

A few photos from the men's game. Nothing great. I found out I'm out of practice. :)

Warning: Post contains no bird photos. ;)

With the McNeese lead late in the game, the game turned into a free throw shooting contest. ;)

Maybe not birds, but they are flying. They have some good lights in that arena.

With the 7D2, I gotten to where I like to shoot in manual mode setting the aperture and shutter speed where I want it and putting the ISO on auto ISO. Then I use exposure compensation if I need it. I have that set up where I can hold the set button in and rotate the top wheel to dial in some exposure compensation.

But with sports, as with any photography situation, there is more than one way to do it.

Doc

This also makes editing multiple images with the same exposure easier than when using Av where the exposure can be all over the place.

A couple of years ago they put in some big rectangular LED panels of light. Those thing are pretty big and heavy They need a crane to get them up there to install them. You can see the rectangular panels in some of the photos when I'm down low under the basket shooting up at the players.

I think I solved a problem I was having shooting basketball. I usually shoot sitting on the floor behind the baseline with two cameras. One with a 24-70 F/2.8 II and one with a 70-200 F/2.8 II. I shoot with one while having the other on the floor beside me or in my lap. I change back and forth as the teams go from one side of the court to the other. I have had a problem in the past of accidentally hitting the small wheel on my battery grip and changing (usually raising) my shutter speed when changing cameras. I tend to forget to check it with the action going on and I end up with a series of photos with higher shutter speeds and higher ISO's than I want.

Some suggested that I turn the controls on the battery grip off but that was no option because I shoot a lot of basketball in the portrait (vertical) orientation and I want the controls on the battery grip on for focusing and activating the shutter. My solution. I put some gaffer's tape over the small wheel on the battery grip so I couldn't accidentally rotate it when it brushed my leg when changing cameras. Worked like a charm.

Okay, I bored you guys enough so you can get back to the bird and wildlife photos. ;)

Same thing would happen to me quickly putting in or taking out a cam from the bag shooting events. I paid Canon $120 to install the locking mode dial on my 7D. It was worth every penny.
