I agree. I have a 5D4 now and am not convinced of its superiority over the 7Dii. Except at high ISO but I am finding its AF inferior to the 7Dii and am having trouble tracking BIF with it where the 7Dii does this with ease. FF is indeed great and I am a huge fan, I have a 6D and use it for wildlife and non wildlife photos where its DOF, high ISO capability and general IQ and color rendering are awesome. The 7Dii is my rock for wildlife photos and it does most other things very well too. I am very fond of it. Looking forward to version 3, sign me up.

I hate this time of year. I have been driving around the outside of the city in grids for the las 6 weeks trying to find anything in the air besides ravens. Finally seen an eagle who crossed the road over me bit I had no chance to get it. I found it in a tree later but it was too far away.

Geese are starting to come back and they are good for basic testing. Easiest thing to shoot in the sky. Almost no challenge at all. I had good success with the 5D4, 100-400 II and 1.4 at the airport. Focus snapped in and I shot a 25 burst sequence of a prop job. I'm really looking forward to trying it out on BIF.

The talk is the AF is as good as the 1DX II so your report is interesting. I''ll have to put it through it's paces and see for myself. The first thing you notice is how much smaller the 61 point array is in the viewfinder as compared the 65 point in the 7D2. Wonder if that has any effect.

I have not sold my 7D2 yet. I may not if I get the same results as you. I was hoping to go with one body only but that may not happen depending on what I find.

As for the 7D3. There is something special about the 80D sensor. I was impressed at the camera store and considered getting it. It also has a motorized mirror assembly to prevent vibration from the slap. The 5D4 has something similar. I would expect the 7D3 to have just as good if not a better sensor (which just makes sense for the timeline) and some type of mirror dampening as well. I'd like to see a dedicated AF processor like the 1DX and 1DX II have.

It may be a while before we see a 7D2 if ever. Canon could drop that line but hopefully not.

Two very different birds from this week at the Alligator Farm. Sad snowy heron and a soaring great egret.

A Roseate spoonbill cutie from yesterday at the Alligator Farm.

Seems this species wants to take the place over..

Great shot, especially with the B/W conversion.

.

I dont get the reasons for only having one camera body, why would you not want the best of both worlds? Apart from that if one camera has a mechanical issue at least you have another while you are waiting on repairs. My husband (who rarely uses his camera) and I both have two DSLRs he uses the 70D and has a brand new 7D packed away as a backup and I use my 7DII and 5DIII. I see no point in selling any of them because invariably from past experience if you sell one you end up regretting it.

Getting old. Tired of lugging two bodies around when I travel and I can never seem to leave one at home. I stopped shooting events so I don't really need two. It was a passing thought. I'll see what my 5D4 does.

Oh yes I get that but I tend to just take one out at a time. that said Im really wishing I could afford an interchangeable lens camera from the fujis for travel, Id be happy with my X100 and one with a longer lens for travelling, still would be way lighter than either of the DSLRs and one lens carrying two fujis

Thanks guys! She was perched next to her offspring the day after Christmas up at the Sacramento NWR. Dark blue winter skies make great B&W shots using a yellow (software) filter.

Actually we are off to China and Thailand in a few weeks. It will be a mix of a longs days walking in Hong Kong and hot humid weather in Phuket. We are travelling light - all carry on. With the new 5D4 I was planning on getting the new 70-300 but made a U turn. I already own a 55-250 STM I purchased as light travel zoom. I just picked up an 18-55 STM and I'm taking my 7D2. That is it - nice and light. If we had a long term home base like in Costa Rica last year I would have brought the big guns.

I'm impressed with the STM line.

Im going to Cambodia later this year, unsure what to take, kind of wary of taking my 5DIII, its my bread and butter money wise. leaning towards taking my 7DII with 40-200F4L attached permanently and the X100, that way dont have to change lenses all the time That set up would weigh 2.3 kilo.

5DIII 135L and a 40 pancake would weigh 1.8 kilo

X100 and X10 less than 800gs fuji does seem more appealing
