I recently purchased a used Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II lens and was thinking of sending this lens into Canon for their 11-point EF lens maintenance service just to get everything cleaned and checked out. This also got me thinking whether or not I should consider sending in my 7D2 for either the 7-point or 18-point maintenance service. I am not having any issues with either, but just wondering how beneficial it would be.

I was curious if anyone here has ever sent their 7D2 or any other camera or EF lens into Canon for maintenance and what their experiences were. Curious to hear good, bad, and whether or not you felt it was worth it. I don't know what the typical turnaround time is to receive the camera or lens back, but figured the winter months would be a good time to do so. Any input is appreciated!

ERP1978 personally I use the canon CPS for all repair-maintenance......gold 100.00 you get 5 cleanings of bodies-lens combos with 3 day turn around time, discount for any repair.......I use reikan focal software to do my MFA on lens-bodies to keep from going blind on splitting hairs on screen comparing "sharpness" at any given aperture for best mfa setting........which you may if that's the method of choice

Appreciate the info Craig! I wasn't aware of that service. I notice that the website says for professional services membership is for full-time self-employed individuals or individuals employed with a professional imaging company. I don't know that I would necessarily fit in either category. How strict are they regarding signing up for the membership and being in one of those two classes of employees?

It depends on what you qualify for based on your gear and a points system based on that gear. I own a couple of Canon bodies and a few Canon lenses so I can get the higher end plans. If you go to the site and register, then put in your gear, you can see what you qualify for. I think anyone can get the lowest plan just for registering. I just looked and it looks like they no longer offer a discount for the Silver Plan.
