I believe he was talking crop ability of the 7DII.... because you can crop the heck out of it and its still great.

Eh, I don't know about that...a reasonable crop maybe to adjust the composition or something like that but some people tend to overdue it. Especially when it comes to birds-in-flight, or birds in general really.

The art is all about what ever someone is trying to get out of any shot. We dont have to agree completely with every shot someone posts... Only that they made the effort. Sometimes I want the entire picture including the surrounding's ... sometimes I'm only interested in a single part of that subject or it maybe that I need to crop more than I would like to.

The 7DII just does it better... just like the other cameras in Canon's line up can do it better again.

Its not an insult or a problem with the camera.. just a fact.

I gotcha, but did you crop that in post or compose it that way when you made the shot? I was just referring to some people tend to go a little overboard in post. I think if you throw away half the image when you edit it, was it really a good shot to begin with. Like this shot of a goat's eye, no cropping. I just used a decent macro lens to get detail you wouldn't normally notice with just your eyes, no cropping needed.

Thats great... I was not including petting zoo's in my thinking... I only shoot critters in the wild so yes your logic is correct if you can get that close to a subject with a macro lens your in like flynn.

In answer to your question about cropping and a good shot anyway... The answer is positively yes..

Just to concur with Jeff, crop ability is awesome when all other things come together....

Jeff and Mike, appreciate the nice comments, I posted the actual crop as I did it for my eyes over in the portrait thread. :)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.
