Well I can confirm I was not blown away by the 5D4, but it just looks better to me. I know I could post two shots back to back from both bodies and no one would be able tell the difference. Tons of outstanding shots posted here with the 7D2. I will admit that although my body is older my penchant for toys is still at about age 5. Getting the 5D4 was a step to possible transition of going one body. With 30 megapixels it is close to a perfect all around camera. Could have used a few more FPS.

However the 1DX II owners post they get just as good crops same sized crops with that sensor as the 7D2. Still deciding which kid to sell.

1DXII is great but is super heavy, think I will stick with what I have but if someone wanted to give me one I would not say no

Over the years I have lost interest in architectural, still life, etc shooting. So I'm considering getting something like an M5 for walk-around and a DSLR for my birding, etc. This does contradict my one body statement. I should have said one DSLR.

I do this often, 7DII with a big lens and the M5 with the 22mm in the bag as well. If I just want 1 to carry round doing the touristy thing I put the 15-85 on the M5 and away you go. Of course you can always put a big lens on the M5 if you're of a mind to.

I have never liked grips or gripped cameras. I will likely just hang on to my two bodies to see what the 7D3 will bring, if they ever release one and what the new mirrorless cams will bring to the table.

It is a bit of a challenge with both 7D2 and 5D4 with 2X but I don't mind it. Both bodies are like shooting fish in a barrel with the 100-400 II and no TC's.

Both bodies with 2X III. First shot is with 7D2. Second 5D4

I may have to look into something like that before of make changes that I may regret. I regret selling several lenses to raise cash for other gear.

Those are both excellent.

I notice that the crop didn't crop, but the FF cropped a wing tip. -?

We're pretty much wearing the same shoes, Mike. When I first got the 5D4 I was ecstatic that it had all the firmware and customization features of the 7D2 and I used it exclusively for a while but the crop factor pulled me back to the 7D2. If you crop the 5D4 file to get an equivalent 7D2 FOV you end up with an 11 meg file which is still pretty decent. The problem I have with that is my eyes still work the same through each viewfinder and having a closer eye on the subject is a big advantage for me so the 7D2 gets taken out for birding and often general nature.

It just goes to show...great minds think alike.

I missed many things on my 5D3 that my 7D2 has. As you said the 5D4 made up for that. I pretty much shot with my 5D4 all of last summer with 1. 4 TC to make up for that. I never liked using a TC on my 7D2 because enjoy using all the AF point options too much. I have fun with it. I like experiment and use all the Cases and AF options.

I did dust off my 7D2 this summer and forgot how much I liked using it. I really prefer the 5D4's IQ even with the TC. Nothing wrong with the the 7D2, the 5D4 just edges it out. A slight AF speed delay which I can live with. However when shooting smaller erratic birds which is tough with anything you use the 7D2 and 100-400 II only would be a better option unless you don't mind cropping. I don't and sometimes you can can really push it and it is better than 7D2. I'm hoping the 7D3 is an improvement with that and AF. I'm torn between selling both bodies and getting a 1DX II or waiting it out for a 7D3. Also I'm seriously considering becoming a one body owner.

This is from last summer using the 5D4 and 100-400 II - no TC. Bird from the bottom left hand corner.

Those are some of my first shots that I didn't have to crop. I was too close but it was just some practise.

They surprised me. I was headed for a pond and they flew out on the right. I have never been able to get that much out of my 7D2. That being said for small, erratic or very fast moving close to you subjects the 7D2 is better than the 5D4 with a TC on it. That was a rare occasion where I used it with my 100-400 II sans TC. I have not done enough testing with it to now for sure but I think the 5D4 would be just as good. It's the extra cropping some don't like. Also the 7D2 AF points cover more screen area.

I have both 5dmk iv and 7dii. I keep trying the mk iv, but for birds....I always seem to fall back to the 7dii. Maybe it’s a famialrity/ comfort level thing ? But that has been my experience , so far.

My experience is exactly the same as yours, Dave.

This is truly a wonderful shot. I really like the composition and detail. The subtle colors are great.

DP...It's tough to fairly evaluate those two images because of the difference in venues. I think they are both quite good with maybe a slight edge going to the 5DIV.
