Excellent shot, Jeff. I'm glad you made the right choice staying with the 7DII. I'll be staying with mine, at least for awhile anyway.

With fall here... and me stagnant for the last year.. bout time to take these two cameras to the game. When the 7DIII is released... I will be the first to preorder

The 7DII has done very well for me.

Of all the 7DII's I've used and owned in the last 4 years, ( right around 10 I guess. ) some were good, some were great, one I thought was magic...

This one is the greatest of them all. Same old 100-400mm and 1.4III.. one heck of a big difference in IQ. Bring on the wolves, Lynx, cougars.... I'm ready now.

Made the right choice in staying with the 7DII

O and thanks for putting up with my whining..

I'm really envious of the D500, Sidknee. If I wasn't entrenched in Canon glass, I'd get the D500. For a crop sensor camera it's gotta be the best.

Sidknee...from what I've read, and the knowledgeable people I've talked to, it's the best APS-C camera on the market right now. I first seriously got in to digital camera's in 2001. I went Canon, because they had superior glass at the time. Things have changed a lot today. I don't believe they are the leaders anymore...not by a long shot. Judging strictly on speed of focusing, and percentage of keepers for BIF photography, I honestly believe the D500 is the best crop sensor camera out there.

The "right now" bit is the thing though isn't it? Next week it'll be the new Sony and then the 7D43 and then the NikonDwhatever and and and.......
I personally believe that anyone thinking their photography would improve because they swapped a 7DII for a D500 is kidding themselves. I still see plenty of rubbish coming out of the D500 as well as the good stuff. It's not the camera!

IMO you've done the right thing without going for a 1DXII. Now you just gotta get out there and shoot shoot shoot....... :)

Well... The 1DxII is very interesting but unless your going to make the jump and try and carry 3 feet of camera everywhere you go your just gona be stuck on that tripod, and I'm not really interested in that kind of shooting.

The D500 is a capable camera but I would challenge anyone to stand beside me and get better ... paper means nothing in the field.

Maybe grab that 500 and come shoot this next two weeks... Heading up to where I shot the Wolf last year. That area didnt burn so that pack I hope is still in the area.
