Well... The 1DxII is very interesting but unless your going to make the jump and try and carry 3 feet of camera everywhere you go your just gona be stuck on that tripod, and I'm not really interested in that kind of shooting.

The D500 is a capable camera but I would challenge anyone to stand beside me and get better ... paper means nothing in the field.

Maybe grab that 500 and come shoot this next two weeks... Heading up to where I shot the Wolf last year. That area didnt burn so that pack I hope is still in the area.

Although I like the sound of the 1DXII it's too much for me really, both cost wise and tech wise so I'll hang out for the mkIII as long as my mkII keeps going. I'm on your side when it comes to that challenge, it's not the camera.

Good luck with the wolf hunt, I wanna see the pictures! :)

The "right now" bit is the thing though isn't it? Next week it'll be the new Sony and then the 7D43 and then the NikonDwhatever and and and.......
I personally believe that anyone thinking their photography would improve because they swapped a 7DII for a D500 is kidding themselves. I still see plenty of rubbish coming out of the D500 as well as the good stuff. It's not the camera!

Sidknee, in all honesty, you are absolutely correct. All the cameras have bashers and those who love them. I've gone from the 7D to the 7DII and hopefully I'll live long enough to end up with a 7DIII. I've customized my 7DII far beyond any other camera I've owned, and by doing this, I can make instantaneous changes when necessary for birds in flight. I love the ability to do that. Like Jeff, I truly like my 7DII, but like most everyone else, I like to dream a little, and also complain a little. It makes life more interesting. With all that said, I still believe that the D500 is a bit better than the 7DII. What tomorrow brings; who knows? Am I going to switch over to Nikon? Nope.

You are right!

Only in a few marginal situations would anyone be able to tell the difference IMO.

when I shot this guy my camera was in bad shape... And I smashed it off the rocks on the shore line. And still for the next year I have shot it as bad as it was. wheel not working, not being able to adjust... After using this new one Its painfully obvious just how much the white balance / Metering was not good either. Burnt whites everywhere.

I wish I was one of those guys that just sent it out to get fixed. From now on I'm going to be.

But then who I'm I kidding. 2160 posted images and 5 ofs.. lol

You've spoken the truth right there, my friend. Anyone shooting a fairly current camera who thinks making a switch is going to improve their photography is sadly mistaken. I can't believe all the relentless banter and drum beating about camera x being better than camera y on these forums. It really tears at the social fabric of the community. Luckily there are threads like these that simply celebrate the results.

Of all the 7DII's I've used and owned in the last 4 years, ( right around 10 I guess. ) some were good, some were great, one I thought was magic...

This one is the greatest of them all. Same old 100-400mm and 1.4III.. one heck of a big difference in IQ. Bring on the wolves, Lynx, cougars.... I'm ready now.

Made the right choice in staying with the 7DII

O and thanks for putting up with my whining..

I have a friend with the D500, awesome camera, awesome specs, but she still biatches shes not getting as good a shot as I am out of 7DII, so I think its more about knowing the camera and using it to its potential. I also have seen some very mediocre work on different sites out of canon 1DX2 & Nikon full frame cameras

I must say I think if money was not an issue and I could have anything I wished.. The 1DxII would be what I carried regardless of weight for a good percentage of my shooting. Its just very hard to justify when your just a country bumpkin shooting the stuff in your back yard. I make excuses as to why but really its money lol

I fellow on here showed me that the 1D cameras can be so very good... I owe him a great deal of gratitude. He knows who he is... lol

You know, Jeff. I have a 1DX11 and a 5D4. For wildlife it's always the 7D2 unless I really need low light capabilities. The 1DXII was a dream camera that doesn't get used as much as I thought it would. In the immortal words of Mr. Spock 'After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true.'

So true... but some mighty fine stuff comes out of that camera. I’d just like a crack at it lol

I had a 1D3, awesome awesome camera. My biggest issue was the weight when I attached my Tamron 150-600 to it, I got wrist issues at the time and sold it because I knew I would never carry a tripod and it was only 10 megapixels. So on top of the weight, there was the need to get close with large lens as well as physically. For a time I did not even carry the tamron on my original 7D due to pain. Once I got over that I decided to take the battery grip off the 7D and give that a go. I managed. My best friend at the time had the same lens on her 1DX and our photos were still pretty close quality wise (to my 7DII) so Im not too bothered with going back to a 1D body. That said if someone gave me one Id jump at it but Im afraid I will never put a big lens on a 1D series camera again. I like to shoot handheld, I like freedom of movement. Sadly as I get older my body is defeating me, hence right now Im wheelchair bound for the last two months waiting for my ankle fusion to heal. I cant wait to get back out with the camera again but realise it will be a slow recovery. So I dont plan to push my chances with my arms or shoulders camera weight wise. In the end without a lottery win I will never be able to afford a really expensive camera anyway. :-)

I will say that your images are amazing and I dont think it matters what camera you use. they will be great. It seems to me there is a lot more to getting great shots than the camera itself. Im still VERY jealous of your fox photos :-D you can not get that close to them here and of course I dont get that lovely snow background either ;-)a

Ya I think my 7DII's have done pretty great but it sure would have been nice if Canon had of been first to the table for once. Its not like we haven't supported them in their endeavour's. I think a good third generation would have given every camera on the market a run for their money Image wise. And I know they have the know how already.

My time with the foxes has been awesome thats for sure. Almost everything I do is handheld with them, they just move so swiftly and I like to be right on the ground. Some of them I will miss forever. luckily I tried to wear out my camera in one day every time I was with them.

My experience with wheel chairs is from a care giver's perspective. All I know is our body's fall apart at an alarming rate when not in use. So work your ass off in that chair as hard as you can so your more ready for the walking, physical therapy is not a pill but a plain old hard workout so get going now lol.
