There are two us here that have to MFA to +13 at 400mm with our 100-400 II's. I don't have that wild number on a 400 prime. So it is not TC. Not sure if this is helps or not.

I’ve tried fully one end to the other.
Without the extender it seems good. With it the images are not good. Even trying different ranges 10ft. 20f. 30f. It’s the same. I noticed this right off the bat when I started shooting it.

I really hate wasting shutter actuations on testing... it’s not my job to figure out problems with a camera. It’s canon’s

My last one was so easy... I could move focus front or back for any situation I found myself shooting. I would move af back a bit shooting birds at close range if I seen blur on the body feathers... it was so easy.

Question for you guys... Is there anyone out there that has more than one 7DII and had one of them not like the 1.4III extender. This new 7DII I have just does not like the extender and I'm looking to see if its something I'm missing. I've tried about everything I know.

My last 7DII with 170,000 clicks on it loved the 1.4III and was just as sharp with or without..

Yes I have been trying to MFA it since I picked it up.. without the extender it is good and sharp it seems..

With it... it looks like two images slightly out of sink..

Took my own advice and cleaned all the contacts with an pencil eraser...

I shot all this last spring and summer with it on the last camera and this camera I believe is setup exactly the same..

I'm not asking for advice on setting up a camera but looking for someone that has had a similar camera..

I have made over ten 7DII's work very well at some point in their life.

So just a question....

Jeff, of the 3 7D2s I've owned I did experience some weirdness with one while using the extender. I removed both the extender and lens to make sure everything was clean, etc. and when I remounted them the problem disappeared. The only thing I realized that I did the first time around was not following the recommendation of mounting the extender to the lens and then mounting both to the camera. I can't say for sure that was the root cause of my issue but it might be worth considering.

No I think its real and mount the same. I know it leaves the camera open longer but it is what it is. At first I thought new contacts.. everything looks normal. Cleaning them today and trying to get it sorted.. Its still the same. I mean it works.. It just does not perform to the standers I'm use to. Or quality I'm wanting.

I think it would be very easy for someone to blame themselves with the image being just a little off.. But I know better. Every once in a while I see and realize the things guys have stated here and its like a slap in the face lol And I start hearing my own advice lol.

I've been frantic in the past about 7DII problems but this is not one of those times.. Warranty and a willingness to move on is my friend.. maybe I should have followed the MedicineMan to the dark side... The D500 may have been fun... And a few friends would have passed out lol :p

My 7D2 didn’t care for my 1.4X 3. The details were always a bit soft.

I’m getting much better results with my 1DX2, better than my 1DIV.

You need to do MFA with the 1.4XIII on the 7D2. Mine needed a big adjustment. Don't know about the other bodies. But I don't see how the body can make a lens soft unless it is a focus error.

I'm sure you are kim. My other 7DII's loved the 1.4III with very little adjustment.. This one just plain doesn't want anything to do with it. Just not sure why yet.

and not all 7DII's need to add -14 while using an extender... I have posted a good few hundred images showing the same.

I'm a little late to the party. lol. I just today received my (new to me) used copy of the 7DII. My always willing and usually available model about the house helped me sort out a few things and I think we're in business. I had an 80D but like this better already. Lots of animals so the 10fps and great AF are just what I needed. A few more years and I'll be as good as the camera...I hope.

Welcome to this thread. I hope you enjoy your 7D Mark II. There is a fairly steep learning curve to get the best from it. One big part of that is learning how to use the rather extensive and feature rich Auto Focus system. Once you learn how to use the system you will understand, as an example, why using 65 focus points for those images of your buddies is probably not the best choice.

I've taken the liberty of attaching four training videos on using the AF system and on setting some of the option parameters. Additionally I provided a link to an essential AF Guide for your camera. Its a PDF download. The manual is only 51 pages long and will teach all about the AF modes and shooting Cases, and when and how to use them. You should also learn how to set up and use the Intelligent viewfinder. I also provided a video link for that feature. Lots to learn, but if you've used the similar features on your 80D you may have had a head start. Have fun with you new acquisition!

Good stuff! Thanks much for that, mwsilver. I know, getting dogs at the dog park running all over the place will get easier and easier to catch.

I feel as if people with 7DII camera must take more photos than most, this thread always is the bulk of posts for me to read of all my followed threads, next to 5DIII and landscapes that are just behind. Is it about the camera or perhaps the subject matter ? :-P:lol:
