I'm thinking my last post today. Yesterday I saw some kind of rust colored bird disappear into the bushes. A split second sighting. Saw him in the same general location again today. Same MO. This prompted me to put away the fly rod and get the camera just in case. Good plan. I was looking for about ten minutes when, unlike yesterday he decided to show himself. His flight lasted all of 5 seconds based on the frame timestamps. I couldn't find him then he was up and flying. I didn't even have a chance to zoom in. I was just happy he was in the frame. I saw him catch a nice brook trout for lunch. As far as I can tell it is an American Bittern. Very uncommon in my location.

I've got to add one more. I thought the bird had caught a brook trout. My bad. He actually has what is known locally as a sucker. I catch a lot of trout there. Never knew there were suckers. I didn't get a heads-up and down the hatch shot.

He actually has what is known locally as a sucker.

They call those nasty things "suckers" here in Kentucky as well.

Shallow creeks are full of them; I never knew one to take a hook.

Starving poverty-stricken locals (just about everyone I know) will attach sticks to each side of a net and two men or tough women (plenty of them around here as well) will start walking the net up the creek until they have several trapped ahead of the net.

They cut their heads off and gut them and throw the rest in a pressure cooker and eat them, bones and all.

I just ain't that tough; I've been plenty hungry, but never that hungry.

LOL. I've heard people say they don't tast good. I've caught two on the fly rod using a soggy muddler minnow. They fight really hard. Well worth the effort.

Been a while and getting back into editing as I am very behind. These however were from yesterday in backyard pond.

Although I never owned a 7D2, I rented one in 2018 for a photo-safari in South Africa's Kruger National Park. I recently revisited some of the photos... Here is one.

Are you able to offload the same photos via a different reader and/or port and they be fine ?

My pci-e USB port has been acting up and cutting in and out - I tried plugging into a different usb (2) port and its dependable and working fine.

And the photos; did that cure that problem as well ?

Very good.

It appears he/she has a wisp of spider web hanging from a wing-tip and it is easily discernible.

Is that what we call river cane he is perched on ?

I have the same camera and lens; I often carry two cameras; and, depending on the situation, I will have the 50-500 either on the 7DMkII or on the 7D.

I have found that the 7DMkII will allow much closer auto-focusing with the 50-500 than the 7D will; the 7D will give up at around three or four feet; whereas, I can poke the lens right up against something with the 7DMkII.
