The high ISO shots look like they could be usable at full size and then resize down some. A lot better than on the 7D1 if I remember right.

Agree. I also believe metering is much better. Seems to be able to get the histogram looking right without having to dial in EC nearly as much. My 1Dx kind of sucks in that regard.

That is probably due to the brand new metering (RGB + IR). I believe that new system also helps with AF and white balance, and also is most likely the impetus for the light flicker feature.

Honestly, as I've taken a couple of shots between the two cameras, I think the metering is a bit better and less finicky on the MkII, but actual image results aren't THAT much different. Enough to be a nice edge, but nothing mindblowing.

I'll play around with them more once I'm home tonight (and get a version of DPP installed that will handle both) and see whether I'm putting my foot in my mouth there or not.

The noise is very well controlled, in the sense that nothing seems out of the ordinary, like dark spots or white speckles that the 7D would get when pushed that high, but there isn't any detail left, even after you clean it up. It would work in a pinch for web images however, like facebook, etc. which is very handy.

I read this and interpreted it as you saying the 7d II is only good for Facebook images... Is that what you are saying?

I have to get a cat? I didn't know that was part of this deal. #second_thoughts

Hell no... I will not get a cat if that is required to get a new Canon I'll look to going to the dark side...

I am really interested in playing with the metering system in backlit and other situations and seeing if it needs EC or spot metering as often. The one disappointing thing is the lack of metering tied to the active AF point - I think that is 100% a software limitation put on the 7D so the 1Dx still has some advantages in the focus and metering department.

For new owners, these 6 video tutorials are informative.

Very helpful. Thanks. Lots to learn coming from the 40D.

<edit>
After watching all 6 videos I am amazed at the customization available with this camera. Handing a highly customized 7D2 to another 7D2 owner would be like handing them and entirely different camera.

I just want to say, I HATE UPS! I am ALWAYS the last person to be delivered to on a route. It absolutely ticks me off to no end. It basically means that when a signature is required, I have to sit and wait at my house all day long because if I am not here, I will miss it. And they just say, we will be there before 4:30. And we all know that if I left at anytime before 4:30 for even a fraction of a second, they would show up. But if I sit here all day long, they will get here at 4:35. I WANT MY CAMERA!!!!!!! And I can't charge it until it gets here. And I can't take it with me tonight until its charged! And I don't have a clue how to use this thing and need time to read basic controls!!

Yes... Im IMPATIENT!!

I feel like the image quality is quite a bit better than my 60D, but I need to compare more to be sure.

I might have to go to the camera expo in Lynwood, WA next weekend and checkout the big lenses/bodies.

I wonder if I can put in my own memory card to take shots with the D4s/1DX/D810/D750/7D II and Sony A7s and compare.

I saw a review of the D750, where the image was almost black (extremely underexposed) and it recovered extremely cleanly/well. But I have a hard time believing it. Also it might have been done at a very low ISO.

No, UPS stops at my door just AFTER yours. :-) #alsowaiting

Watch the Canon training videos (external link) and read the manual so you will be ready to go.

Lots to do, but I agree, no substitute for having the camera in your hand.

If I wasn't a college student with kids, I would have way more than I currently do. This is going to become a very expensive hobby when I graduate and secure good employment lol.

I am lucky that i got married when i was in a college, and have babies even before i started to have a job, then things got easier, but as i said, if i didn't get married at all and no kids i will have too much gear, i can't say if i am not a student because then i may not have a job to afford things without a degree here.

Now if i got another job, i will continue to afford things but slowly, first thing is i need to travel after so long time, then i will buy 2 cameras and 3 lenses per year.
